Am in New York now, since this past Saturday.
It's so fucking hot. Although tonight it cooled down a lot, since there are thunderstorms on the way. It hasn't been truly unbearable, but the past three days I've gotten home just soaked. Which is really unpleasant.
Mostly I've been working with Matthu; started on Monday. I'm not getting paid, and I'm not getting credit this coming term, but it's very low-key and low-maintenance, which is fine for me. He's fairly young, only 27, so he understands where I'm coming from completely and expects fairly little (I think). And we get along very well. I wasn't sure if he liked me much, at first, but the past two days he's asked me a lot about everything. He was asking me about going out underage, and I showed him my fake, and it was nice. This week I've been archiving some of his photos, and organizing receipts and other accounting-type things, which is by no means a blast, but he's also been taking me around to meet people he works with, to scout locations, etc. He has a lot of contacts which is good, and he doesn't seem to treat me like his intern--today was the first time he's introduced me to somebody that way, every other time it's been "this is Collin" or "this is my friend Collin." So it's strange, I feel like I need to maintain the "apprentice" position but I also feel very equal to him. But we talk more, and I recommended epicurious.com to him for a dinner party he threw last night, so I think it's going to be a really good thing.
Anyways, it's all very great, and he has all these shoots lined up that he wants me to go with him on, which I'm really excited for. The bad thing, of course, is that I'm not making any money, so I'm already going through what I've saved over the summer (which isn't nice to do). And in the fall I don't know if I can take classes, work at Abercrombie (or hopefully somewhere else), AND intern for Matthu. Because I know that whatever day I choose to work with him, there will never be anything interesting going on that day of the week. The amazing shoots will always be the day before that, right when I'm in class learning how to sharpen images in Photoshop.
But we'll see.
Adam's 21st birthday party was last Saturday night. It was lots of fun, and I met a bunch of people from Bard, and got to know Jay and Ruth much better, which is nice because I really like them both. There were lots of people there, and it was bumpin' and groovin'.
Tonight I got a late dinner with Ruthie and hey friends Ramona and Marie-Claire, which was nice, and the Italian waiters kept hitting on the girls and winking at me, which was weird but funny, and we all shared some wine and had a nice time. And they came over afterwards, and we hung out for a while, and they all just left. It was a good night, even though the Sox lost and are now in second place.
Also, Adam and Ruth and I watched PR at Ruth's last night and let me just say that Keith is a shit. A full-blown shit.
That's all!
