We are family....

Good Afternoon,

The longer I am here at my job the more it feels like a family. I don't know how to explain it, but I can see how it is forming. We're small enough, 30ish, that everyone knows everyone and everyone talks to everyone. Not unlike many other families, this one isn't without strife and conflict. Which is all a part of life.

This became a lot more evident when we layed off people last week. We had to let go 20% of our department, or one person, and it was hard on all of us. My co-worker and I mostly because we knew beforehand and had to act like he was going to be there longer then last Tuesday. I hated that part, lying to his face and telling him that everything was going to be okay. It is life.

The moment when I realized how much of a family we were was when we had let him go and I saw my boss just sitting in his office and staring out the window. It was a busy day, but it was emotionally draining. I was sad all day because I knew that irrevocably, people's lives were being changed and not for the better I think.

We're in this together. We sink or swim. The fucked up part is that the future of the Canadian Economy is being decided tonight.

Cheers,
Wayne

life, job, family.
