Bird shit on my head

Aug 11, 2008 23:50

Saturday morning, while I was walking in the rain, already feeling under the weather, a bird shit on my head. The bird really aimed well, landing a full load on the back of my head and neck. My mother use to tell us such events were lucky, and my Tender Beast said so too. Frankly however, as i stood on the side walk, damp from the rain and now the recipient of flying avian scat the luck seemed to be entirely the bird's.

However, shortly after that the hard that has lingered since June lifted.

Driving back along Queen St. My Tender Beast suddenly asked me to stop the car. We ended up at Made You Look where we met Zsolt the Transylvanian goldsmith. We were both initially drawn in by his wood and metal rings, however when the staff person explained that they needed careful tending and maintenance, and still would likely not last over ten years if worn regularly, we moved on. Somehow it seems inaspicious to get wedding rings that are expected to degrade. Zsolt's Morse Code rings are however both durable and fabulous, and we are now excitedly thinking about what secret messages we would wear on our fingers.

We've also found an apartment for October 1st. Yes, we are moving to Burlington. The apartment is tiny, but amazingly designed. Like a ship, it has places for everything. The garden is huge, there is a gas stove in the kitchen, there is a big soaker tub with a reading light above it and there is much to get excited about the apartment inside. Outside it is close the library, transit routes, a huge park, an excellent Vietnamese restaurant and two excellent Middle Eastern Restaurants. Yes, i am moving to Halton. Who would have thunk it. It is a relief to know where we will be living even if the move in date is later than ideal.

I'm ready for things to be good, to be surprised by wonder and magic. I'm ready for things to work, for things to happen on time, for people to be kind. I would not ideally have to stand under a defecating bird for this to happen, but if that's the key to it all, i'll take it. Not like the bird gave me any option anyway.

wedding, burlington
