*still carrying a backpack of extra presents from his recent walkabout, Isengar goes outside and stands at the bottom of the large tree housing his neighbor's flet*
A visitor! What luck!!!!celebrimborxMarch 16 2005, 06:09:41 UTC
Oh please let this be someone interesting!
*hurriedly dashes back into bed; pulls blanket up to his chin; thinks better of it and gathers blanket casually around himself; picks up sketch pad and tries to act natural*
*calls out* Oh indeed, someone is home! But the Spider man of the house is out! You're welcome to come up and try to distract me, whoever you are!! *laughs*
*smiles* Very pleased to meet you, Isengar. My name is Celebrimbor. I am Tobey's prisoner guest. He has gone to the market. Please sit down. *indicates nearby chair*
By your bearing, I deduce that you are a sea-faring fellow. You have that hail and well-met look in your eye. In both of them, actually. Also, your use of a foreign language indicates that you are a traveler.
Yes, I've been known to raise a sail every now and then. I've been to the Cape of Maladaptive Orcs and many other places usually unvisited by Hobbits, most of whom are afraid of any water deeper than their bathtubs. But life is an adventure and who wants to spend all his time in the same place when there's so much to see and learn out there?
Yes, he is. I am not acquainted with an Arathorn. Is he another costumed personage?
I have heard in legends gone by that Hobbits do enjoy their bathtubs and have little desire to seek adventure beyond them. But you are different. You have a need to learn? Or is your own bathtub not one of particular note?
Arathorn doesn't dress up much that I know of, but I only know him socially. What he does in the privacy of his own flet is his business.
I'm constantly amazed that my fellow Hobbits have little desire to see what's on the far side of the horizon - the monotony of routine is no siren call to me, I'm afraid. But I do have a nice bathtub.
*tries not to picture this Hobbit in a bathtub...isn't very successful*celebrimborxMarch 18 2005, 02:25:52 UTC
*smiles back*
Flet? Is Arathorn an Elf? The name is slightly familiar to me but I cannot place it among the Noldorian families.
Perhaps I shall be introduced to more inhabitants of the Shire, having met only a few so far. I have been searching for members of the Baggins family. Where I come from, there is a song about them and a certain...Ring that might be in their possession, which may lead to my other Rings of Power. Are you acquainted with anyone of that family?
No Elf, though nearly as tall as one. His son made it big in politics out in the Gondorian area some time back, I think.
Well, if you must know, everyone around here is related to everyone else around here (Hobbits don't get out much), so the odds of you meeting a member of the Baggins family are pretty high. I am a part of that family, you know. *nods*
Songs? *perks up* I sing a lot of songs, you know. I'm pretty much the only one around here who does of late. I think I know a song about a Ring of Power .... I learned it a long time ago. Can't remember it right now - I'm sure it'll come back to me in the middle of the night or something.
But I wouldn't go around mentioning Rings of Power around here - we've had some bad history with them, especially under Bywater Pond. *shudders at the memory*
*nods in agreement* Yes, the branches of one's family tree can be very tangled, especially when there are very few choices with whom to forge an alliance.
You are a Baggins? Interesting! A sea-going Baggins! And you say it is bad form to bring the topic of Rings of Power out into the open? Then I shall guard my words in the future. As for songs, my own father sang to me when I was young. He would take me out for a day of looting and plundering the town in search of the Silmarils horseback riding. Here is a snippet of one that I remember:
I fell in to a burning Ring of Power I went down, down, down outside the tower. And it burns, burns, burns the Ring of Power the Ring of Power.
A drawing of a flying machine! Oh, thank you! *is pleased* But what are these knobs for?
*turns a knob thereby sending a thick black line across the image* What did I do??? *fiddles with the knobs more; shakes drawing in frustration; accidentally erases image*
Ah, I understand now. It is a modern technological wonder! Instant art. Thank you, kind Isengar.

I've not heard that one before. I've no idea what it means, sorry.
*notices sketch pads and pens* You draw? I may have something for you.
*reaches into backpack and brings out a present and hands to Tobey's guest* Can you use it?
