So Mozart and I saw this going around plurk and figured it was high time that we had one of these again too. It's the

Canonically, she loves books on psychology, the zoologically dubious, and epics about wizards (she writes such fiction herself) - so in SH I believe her tastes are similar.
In SH, she reads both fiction and non-fiction about dark magic, creatures of the deep, and old rituals as 'light reading'. Every other week she's probably got a new tome out from the library, and even though they're covered in dust and a little dubious-looking, she somehow manages to finish them. She's particularly interested in the books in the restricted section in Hogwarts, but she hasn't quite figured out a way to get her hands on them yet. She can't wait to be a 6th/7th year and find an excuse to check them out, but she's being patient for now. I might have her go on some midnight shenanigans to the library at some point during the next school year.
Prior to Hogwarts, she managed to exhaust everything within reach on the bookshelves at home. She knows there's a good deal of material in her mother's room but she isn't quite brave enough to sneak in there - and she's not really that keen on finding out just what's inside. If questioned, her mother only mentions encyclopedias and recipes on alcoholic potioning - and Rose pretends not to care.
Sometime between her first and second years, probably with John or Dave's help, she discovered the muggle bookshop/library in her town. Instead of checking out her friends' recommendations (mostly films), she ended up with a large volume of muggle literature and psychological textbooks.
She enjoys exploring the muggle perspective of magic in fiction, and I think she believes the muggle approach to psychology is particularly effective (counseling and such), moreso than the usual magical remedies applied by St Mungo's. With regards to muggle fiction, she particularly enjoys H.P. Lovecraft and his eldritch horrors. Randomly, another Muggle book I think she has an interest in is "The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner." by James Hogg.
Aaand, hmm, how about any of your student characters? Are any of them very fond of reading and what kinds of books do they like? |D

She basically reads everything that can teach her new things, so she ends up reading a lot of her textbooks cover to cover and getting a bunch of unnecessarily huge supplementary books for fun. Recently she was even reading Denizens of the Deep while at Stonehenge. Because apparently that's what you do when you live in a country that's SURROUNDED BY OCEAN.
As for fiction? There's never really been an indication of what she's fond of in canon, although Ohkubo made some cutesy joke about her liking a book called The Dark Side of the Moon.
Which is a Pink Floyd album and not a. Book. 8|a Apparently it is in SEverse, though, so I've had to make some assumptions about what it could possibly be about and move on from there. There's a possibility from that that she likes science fiction, mysteries (she has some detective traits about her) and some horror; she was never very fond of fantasy because...well, fantasy is her life, it's BORING. And it doesn't really matter if the content of a story gets dark, what's a plot without some conflict?
She also reads romance novels ironically. And John's suggested to her that she totally needs to read Aquaman comics.
As for Xion, she doesn't actually get to read much outside of her textbooks since her parents censor/keep books out of reach of her most of the time. And Botan's more into sports and video games than reading.
So Rose has a habit of psychoanalysing people, right? Would she ever consider going into a field like that when she's older? Would she become grimdark Crane?

I figure that when she gets older she'll end up going into potioning/unlicenced magical medicine more and involve herself in black markets, dark magic, and generally meddle in dangerous and reckless things just because she feels like it, until it sort of backfires and goes over her head. Which it probably will. With her friends (and even people she randomly meets), she'll continue picking them apart and being infuriating - and perhaps the potioning she gets into will be medically inspired and/or the type to mimic psychological drugs. Ok, this is starting to sound a lot like Crane now.
In general I guess yes, she'll get somewhere with it and fuck with people's minds a bit on the way, but it'll take a lot of meandering to do so and I don't see her going anywhere good in the future unless someone stops her. She's the type to play a little too much in things she doesn't understand but thinks she does, and that probably will always get her in trouble.
What kinds of books would Xion's parents let her read and why do they keep so much out of her reach? =O

Although she sneaks reading the paper because...she's no idiot, she wants to know what's going on at all times.
