A/N: Firstly this is the final gift for
zaftig_darling who wanted either a LoVe post season fic or a Mac/Weevil fic. Sadly I couldn’t seem to write a LoVe fic that I thought was a good enough so instead I decided to write you this, a silly, fluffy Mac/Weevil piece that I hope you enjoy. I’m also very sorry that this is late. Secondly I want to give the biggest shout out ever the
metchick01 who not only beta’d this fic for me but helped me come up with a title. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, you’re terrific and amazing, an absolute gem.
Now sit back and enjoy!! And please feel free to comment!!
“So?” Mac asked.
“So, what?”
“So, did you get the job?”
Weevil shook his head, “Nah, they think I’m too qualified for that job. Instead they offered me a management position and it earns ten dollars more an hour than what I would have earned as a mechanic.”
Giving a little squeal Mac jumped straight into Weevil’s arms allowing him to swing her around in glee.
Kissing him twice she said, “We have to go out to celebrate.”
“Do we?” Weevil asked, raising an eyebrow, “I was thinking we’d celebrate here.”
“Sure, if you want to scar Sophia and Felix for life,” Mac replied, “Otherwise we can go out and celebrate with them and once they’re in bed then we can have our own private celebration.”
“I like your thinking Mrs. Navarro.”
“Why, thank you Mr. Navarro,” Mac said, jumping out of his arms, “Now you go and get the kids ready and I’ll call Veronica and let her know we won’t be coming for the traditional week before Christmas celebrations.”
“No!” Weevil cried, jumping on the phone, “If you call they'll expect us to come and celebrate with them.”
“Well we’re not. We can celebrate when we’re all together next week. Now, go away,” Mac replied, snatching the phone and going into her office.
Smiling as her husband mumbled to himself she couldn’t believe that this was what her life had brought her. When she and Weevil had become friends at the end of her freshman year of college she never would have guessed this would happen. She had been with Max and Weevil hadn’t made a move. When Max had cheated on her in the middle of her sophomore year she turned to Weevil without even realizing it. She’d spent two days crying in his arms before he’d even asked why she’d come to him. Confused she had left Weevil, figuring that’s what he wanted, and went straight to Veronica, who instantly offered to get revenge on Max for her.
Days later when she ran into Weevil she had been amazed when he had asked if she was ok, not bringing up the fact she had ruined many of his shirts. It had surprised her. She expected it to be weird but it wasn’t, it was as if it hadn’t happened. She knew it did though. She was there. How else could she explain it? It wasn’t like it had ever happened before. Instead he stood there acting as though it had never happened and it confused her. So, she just went along with it. It wasn’t until a week later when she learned from Veronica that Weevil had tracked down Max and decked him that she realized why he’d ignored the issue.
She headed straight to where she knew he would be. She had to talk to him, to tell him how grateful she was. Not that she condoned violence. It was just that no guy had ever done that for her before. She’d never known what it could be like. It definitely explained why Veronica was always going back to Logan. Having a guy defend her honor was new and it was different. What she was feeling, it was nothing that anyone else had managed to stir.
When she realized what was stirring in her she tried to take a step back, stay as far away as possible. She didn’t need to be hurt again, not so soon after Max anyway. Weevil wouldn’t let her though. It felt like her was everywhere. Maybe she was just noticing it for the first time or maybe he had really stepped up, started being more of an influence in her life. Either way she wasn’t sure how she felt then, whether it was the gratitude she felt for the beating he had given Max or whether it was something that had been repressed for a while.
Nothing happened though until she was in her senior year. They’d been at a party together, goofing off and having fun, getting more than a little tipsy, when out the blue he had leaned over and kissed her. Mac had just blamed it on the alcohol and was prepared to let it go but the next day Weevil had dropped by. It wasn’t a surprise, they had plans after all, but she hadn’t expected the conversation that came afterwards. She still couldn’t believe it when he said he wanted to be with her, that he liked her. She never expected it.
It made her happy though, having someone say those words out loud. It felt like nothing she had felt before. A guy just telling her how he felt. It striped away all of the confusion from before and they spent the evening making out in her room.
After graduation was when the life changing situations occurred. On graduation night, Weevil had asked her to marry him. It had come out of nowhere and it had left Mac feeling confused. She’d spent the rest of the night with Veronica, Logan, Wallace and Dick, so she could think, but she didn’t realize that would be where she would find her answer. Watching the way Veronica and Logan were treating each other made her realize that she didn’t want to run from love. It was clear for all to see Logan and Veronica did love each other but they didn’t know how to act when they were together, leading them both to be miserable. Mac knew she didn’t want that with Weevil, she wanted to spend the rest of her life with him, that she loved him. Leaving abruptly, she went straight to Weevil, giving him his ‘yes!’, and she never looked back. To her, he made life worthwhile and that was the most amazing gift she could have.
“Hey, you ready to go?” Weevil asked pulling Mac from her thoughts.
Smiling she looked down at her phone and headed over to him, realizing she had gotten so lost in her thoughts that she had forgotten to ring Veronica, “Yeah. I’ll text Veronica from the car. There’s less chance of being talked into heading over there.”
“Sounds like a good plan. The kids are in the car, we’re just waiting for you.”
Mac nodded and wrapped her arms around Weevil. It wasn’t the life she’d envisioned but it was definitely a good one.
1 week later...
“Ok,” Mac called out to the yard, “Veronica is demanding us all to sit at the table.”
Watching as the boys grumbled and groaned she knew they didn’t mean it. They were all glad the majority of Veronica’s craziness was directed towards their Christmas dinner, and not them. It was a small gathering, Veronica, Logan and their daughter, Dick and his girlfriend of the month, Wallace and his new bride and her family. It was a tradition they had never meant to start but somehow it did and had continued for years now. After they all left college, and fled to different parts of the world, they realized that they were always going to be in Neptune at Christmas. It had been Logan who suggested having the meal. No matter what happened, changes in relationship, jobs, even the odd hospitalization, couldn’t keep the group away at this time of year.
Of course one of the hospitalizations had been her own when she was pregnant with Sophia and Felix. Being put on bed rest at this time of year nearly drove her insane but she was grateful the party had continued at her bedside. Though that year Veronica and Logan had thought they were being clever, sneaking away to be alone, but they all knew what was going on. When the pair had told them all a year later at Christmas that they were dating everyone had shrugged and continued like nothing had happened, just to annoy the pair. When they had announced a year later they were expecting a child everyone was happy, knowing now that they were finally getting serious. Four years later their daughter, Alison, had two parents who had never been happier and a best friend in Sophia, even with their two year age difference.
Smiling as the boys moved inside she kissed Weevil on his way past before making her way to the lounge room where the three children were playing with their presents on the ground. Calling for them to come and take their seats, she watched as they ran past, unaffected by the yelling that Veronica was doing. Moving into dining room she realized that Dick had began to eat before they were all at the table. Shaking her head she took her seat next to Weevil. Dick should have known better than that but Veronica should have known there was no way he would stick to that rule.
Cheering with everyone else as Logan brought in the turkey, golden brown and looking edible. Dishing up dinner to her plate and then her children’s she couldn’t help but feel at home. They were a little dysfunctional, especially with Logan and Veronica around, insecure in the real world but here, with each other, they were home.
And there was no greater place to be.
The End
