AJ is bright and bubbly youthful and is used to Jane's sort of odd requests when it comes to hair.  Not that her requests are all odd, but she goes into the Salon early in the morning and asks for all her hair back.  Which is actually kind of weird.  AJ is very accommodating especially with nice tips.  So when Jane asked her to color her husband's ( Read more... )

He put together greater preparations for this party than for anything else he'd done in recent memory. It had come together well enough considering everything. His hair looked good. His clothes once again fitted to him like a glove. He even felt pretty good the morning of and during the drive into the city.

It's important, looking good, feeling good. It's very important. Justin, in Jane's eyes, always looks good, but there is something extra good when he decides to dress up and impress and today is no exception. She reaches for her purse. "I got you something, it was supposed to be for Christmas but I couldn't get it in time."

The party is being hosted at a swanky hotel, convenient rooms, plenty of booze, music, and valet parking. What more could a person want?

Justin's eyes narrowed and he shot her a glance. A puzzled glance. He never really celebrated Yule before her and the idea of presents was still kind of foreign to him. Plus, he had most everything he really wanted.

"That's unnecessary, darling."

She keeps saying Christmas because she can't help it! Ugh! It's Coke and Macy's and a sort of Catholic background. Or just being so long a heathen following mainstream indoctrination. Something like that.

She is blaming it on violent video games.

"Yes, I know." The purse opens and she finds the familiar robin egg blue box and offers it to him. "I just love spoiling you."

Since he was kind of old school, the idea that she not only bought him something, but payed a considerable price for it made him just a tad uneasy. And he recognized the box. Tiffany's of course.

Maybe someday with enough brainwashing, he could get used to the idea of the strong, independent woman.

He opened the box to see what was inside.

To be completely fair what lays in the box is most certainly not the most expensive thing in the place. In fact it's probably reasonably priced considering the quality of the work. So it's not like she had to go out and turn tricks to get him a Christmas present.

Which, oddly enough makes her feel awkward about giving it to him. He is used to the finer things in life and all she can give him is a trinket.

It's a simple silver pendent on a chain and it is engraved. The date that he purposed to her and they got married and: All my love, Jane.

Justin favored the plain, classic, iconic looks in most everything he owned. To a certain degree, there are things you can count on to never be out of style. That the silver pendant was simple, elegant and understated was perfect for him. It aligned with his sense of style nicely and matched the simple metal rings and bracelets on his hands.

He didn't really know what to say. Justin removed it from the box carefully and put it on. The pendant came to rest near his heart.

He leaned close to give her a kiss, while at the same time giving her hand a loving squeeze. "Thank you."

She had been holding her breath, the whole time she had been holding her breath waiting to see how he would react to the gift. It seemed to be something that he would wear, that he would like, and that it was something that would be a symbol of her love for him. It was one of the reasons she felt it was necessary to buy his wedding ring.

A smile and she leans up to take the kiss he gives her, and she gives him another kiss before he can pull back all the way. "You're welcome, I'm glad you like it." She keeps her hand in his.

"So what do you think the odds are that there's a red wine worth having?"

Alcohol was going to be a survival tactic to make it through this night. He wondered for a moment if he'd feel drunk faster.

Justin had discriminating taste in his red wines after all, but there were a lot of doctors here. Perhaps one or two of them had appreciation for red grapes.

Tucking the box into her purse she shuts it with a snap and can't help but grin at his words. "That I am not sure about, the hotel bar might have something that suits your tastes." It's a nice hotel so even if there isn't something set out specifically for the party he should be able to get a good red wine.

"They'll love you, all you carry is cash." She understands the all cash business.

"They'd love me anyway." He was that type of person, wasn't he? Good looking. Congenial enough. Powerful. Loaded. Even the people who hated him wanted to be him.

"I'm headed that way, then. Would you like something?"

"Of course they would, who wouldn't?" She grins up at him when he lays down some of that swagger. That's pure Justin right there, and one of the things that she just absolutely adores about him. It's that confidence that is just so mouth watering sexy to her.

"Oh God, yes." She breathes in an agreement, nodding quickly. "I would murder for a drink right now."

He assumed that she would want one. He tilted his head and regarded her. Nope. Still can't read her mind.

"What kind of drink?"

Disappointing, Wizard.

She thinks about this for a moment. Champagne or vodka and tonic with lime. Ugh. There is no reason why this should take this much brain power in order to figure out what she wants to drink.

"Vodka and tonic, with lime, please."

"Alright." He murmured, squeezing her hand one more time before heading towards the bar.

Justin's eyes sweeped over the place like he was trying to see everything at once. To an observer, he might look focused. As if he were on a mission. For him it was habit. This was how he regarded all crouded places.

He made it to the bar and placed a drink order without incident. A red wine for him that he'd never heard of and a vodka and tonic for her, with a lime.

Jane moves over to the side, checking her hair for a moment in a hanging mirror. Everything is fine. Why does she keep thinking things won't be fine? Well, this is not a controlled environment and this is Justin not in his normal environment, so she is waiting for someone to do something stupid. Not Justin, but someone else.

Call her paranoid.

She watches him head to the bar and misses her coworker stepping up to her with her date. Everyone seems so young to Jane, she didn't exactly pick this profession right out of high school. But they share a light hug and greetings, and compliments on outfits.

"This is Eddie," she introduces her date and he smiles slightly, a nod in greeting.

"Are you alone again tonight?" Why do women give that look of pity when another woman is alone? Bitch, shouldn't pity, she should look the fuck out. No one is safe when Jane is on the prowl.
