[TRANS] 090728 Nikkan Sports Section Interview - Yoochun

Jul 30, 2009 15:06

"My energetic age was when I was in primary school."
The smiling Yoochun (23) is an internationalized person who is fluent in English and Japanese. When he was in Primary 6, he had to move to America because of his father’s job. This was the first time he had problems with languages.

"I spent the first year in America at school and at home. I didn’t go anywhere else, and I didn’t have any friends."
Yoochun’s five-year-old brother learned English faster than Yoochun and was the first to make friends.

"I was alone at home listening to music or cleaning…At that time, it seemed like I hid my emotions from other people. Communication also became rusty."
He listened to Eric Clapton’s “Tears in heaven” frequently.
With the help of music, the 17-year-old used the auditions to return to Korea. His rusty communication skills also "changed after debut, and afterward, changed a lot when he was in front of different people."
After the group successfully formed, they had activities in Japan, and the problems with communication surfaced again.

"Without knowing Japanese, returning to Korea was very convenient, and there were friends…What can be done when there are difficulties… I really had those thoughts."
After having discussions with all the members, the conclusion was that “even if they made no achievements made in Japan, they didn’t want to return to Korea like this.” In order to learn Japanese, the members only used Japanese in their conversations during that time.

"At the beginning, we watched dramas or listened to music more than using the dictionary and reading books. I’ve seen Takuya Kimura’s film, and listened to the Gospellers and Masaharu Fukuyama."
After overcoming language difficulties twice, he focuses back into music.

"Now, thinking about going to Japan wasn’t bad. If we go to other countries and go through the activities we did in Japan…"
Having 6 years of experience in America, Yoochun can help the members when they’re overseas. “When they need room service, the other members always use me (laughs)."
He discussed with staff members about the hairstyle.
The staff members replied that Yoochun’s image gives off an "anime Black Jack" feeling. Yoochun replied enthusiastically, "I also want it like that." This made the staff speechless…
He is like a child and he's also a brother that the other members can rely on.
"I am like a chameleon.” He dreams of creating a band and “buying a ship to perform".
Specializing in piano, he is the composer among the members. It’s unclear about whether he can realize such a big dream.
