Cal holds the door open for Enzo, coming in behind him.

This time, Penny is not asleep when the visitor enters. This time, Penny is wide awake, and she knows there was no one else in the apartment when Cal went through that door just a second ago.

So now Enzo is being very thoroughly sniffed.

Enzo laughs and bends down for her. "Hey, Penny! I'm Enzo. Wow, her forehead's kinda wrinkly."

"She's part pug," Cal explains. "Pugs are really wrinkly."

Enzo is getting a very thorough going over; it has Cal raising his eyebrows a little, as Penny is usually more friendly than businesslike.

"She must be trying to figure out where you came from."

He laughs more at that. "You're gonna have to get him to bring you to Milliways sometime, aren'tcha, Penny?" he says, trying to pet her around the sniffing. Organic dog fur is still a strange and fascinating sensation to him, feeling, as it does, the same and not the same as human hair.

"Someday," Cal says. "When she's a little better at following instructions."

He wants to be sure that Penny will come to him immediately if called, for her own safety, but so far her curiosity (and beagle stubbornness) has been stronger than her training.

The intensity of her investigation is tapering off. This may have something to do with being petted. Curious, yes; guard dog, no.
