The Door opens into Cal's living room, which features a brown leather sectional couch. The color base of the room is fairly neutral, with a few colors overlaid that emphasize the framed pictures on the wall without going overboard. In short, it looks exactly like it was decorated by someone with good taste and a substantial budget who knows Cal ( Read more... )

"Nice place," Sam says, glancing around himself curiously. He smiles at Cal, letting the boxes drop as he himself drops lightly onto the sofa. "See you in a minute."

"Thanks," Cal says. "Told you Bela did good."

It only takes a few seconds to take the boxes into his room and drop them on the bed. He'll unpack later.

(He can't face looking at Calvin's book right now, even for just a second.)

Back in the living room, he says, "Nice couch, huh?"

It's exactly as comfortable as a couch should be, which is the only factor Cal was overly concerned with when it came to the majority of his furniture.

"You did," he agrees.

Sam is one of those people who frequently manage to look as if they're sprawling without even trying, and now is one of those moments.

"Very comfy," he says, stretching a hand out towards Cal. "Going to come sit?"

Cal smiles and takes Sam's hand, dropping onto the couch next to him.

"It's harder to give you the tour this way," he observes. He doesn't sound too upset about that, though.

Sam grins. "You can describe it instead," he suggests. "And I'll listen. Attentively."

Rly.

Cal laughs.

"There's a kitchen," he says, "a living room, two bedrooms, and a bathroom. The guest room's doubling as my study, and you probably don't even need to know it exists."

The futon in the guest bedroom is certainly not going to be Sam's problem.

"Why?" he asks innocently. "Am I sleeping on the couch?"

"Well," Cal says, "I was gonna say my bed was plenty big enough, but if you wanna sleep on the couch . . ." He shrugs. "You're the guest."

"Hmm." Sam pretends to think about this. "Well, do you snore?"

"Don't know," Cal says brightly. "I'm always too busy sleeping to find out."

Obviously.

"But you've never had any complaints?"

About snoring, obviously.

"I never get any complaints in bed."

What? Snoring takes place in bed.

Sam snorts with laughter.

"I'd hope not, too." Siiigh. "I suppose I'll risk it."

Cal laughs.

"Good," he says. "My bed is probably more comfortable than the futon."

Chances are, in fact, very high that this is the case.

"I'll have to take my chances with you, then."

Cal can probably tell how great a struggle this will be.

Poor Sam.

"I think you'll live."

There is a pause, and then Cal ruffles Sam's hair.
