because pretty much everyone who even has a slight idea of who adam lambert is, has an opinion, i suppose i should post what i've been ranting on since his ama performance.
double. fucking. standard. not just about him being gay, but about him being a gay MALE.
it's not about the 'simulated oral sex' because ABC has shown 'simulated oral sex' in their show Cougar Town and that was actually meant to be the sex act, as in, assumingly ending in orgasms. did anyone see his 2 second face-crotch action ending in orgasms.
it can't possibly be about the kiss. i mean it lasted maybe 3 seconds and, hey? tommy didn't seem to object.
no, it's about the closed minded idiots that like to say "it's not about him being gay, it's about (insert your 'trying not to be homophobic but is being homophobic' phrase here)"
people didn't like that he was kissing a MAN. it wasn't the actual simulated sexual act, it was that people didn't like that he was simulating it with a MAN. after all, where's the public outcry about janet jackson grabbing a male dancer's crotch or J.Lo being groped by shirtless men?
who complained about that? who complained about Eminem's horribly offensive lyrics (which, bear in mind, should have had more complaints considering the amount of rape victims in this country) as adam quoted "slim shady's got 17 rapes under his belt" on The Early Show.
so where was the outrage over THAT? where was it? nowhere. because apparently sexual commentary and actions only are offensive when it's man on man.
which brings up the double standard. the women didn't get chastised or banned from any ABC appearances. the women didn't have to deal with the consequences to their actions because there were none.
yes, adam went over the line. yes, he was over the top and went crazy, but to anyone who has seen his pre-idol work ("Crawl Thru Fire" from the Zodiac Show?) it couldn't possibly have been very shocking. we EXPECT that from him.
and no matter what he does, there's going to be outrage. if he appears in a magazine with a naked woman, he's too straight. if he kisses his bassist, he's too offensive. where is the line and how can he possibly straddle it when he's got the gay community pulling him one way and mainstream media pulling him the other.
let him be the way he wants to be. if he crosses lines, then we just need to draw a new one and learn to adjust. until he's on morning television wearing bondage straps, handcuffed to a headboard while a male dancer goes to town on his manparts, then i think the children of the world are safe.
and now i'm going to move past all this controversy, because, frankly, it's getting kind of annoying. no use beating a dead horse.
