Supernatural
So.
My final reaction...confused? Unsettled? Unsure? I feel like I need to watch it again before I know how I think about it. But it's a need to watch and not necessarily a want to watch.
I loved the start. Beautiful loser, heh. The black and white / colour, then / now.
Jensen's acting. Wow.
Although to start with, I was thinking of him as 'Jensen' and not as 'Dean'. But I guess that's because it's so far from normal for Dean.
As soon as YED showed up I went "ooooh! I get it! It's a hallucination!" (This was helped that the thing Sammy stabbed YED with was a syringe and YED dissolved like..fog...*dream stuff*)
I found the Cambell cousins thing a little too... "seriously!?" and by the time Samuel showed up I was verging on the edge of "...you're joking...right?" And then all the exposition in that scene...Although I have faith that it was like that for a reason. To make us not quite believe the perfected-ness of the whole situation.
And then..I don't really have comments on the rest of the episode. Well. With the 'oh no it looks like Lisa and Ben have been kidnapped'...I didn't think that. I was going "and....they're going to show up...any minute now...THERE." but then, in the scene with Dean in the garage I was thinking "IT'S BEHIND YOU, STUPID." the whole time. So..
Other random thoughts:
Sammy saying Dean was 'building a life'. Dean was working as a builder, too. Unsubtle!symbolism, yay!
The 'DJ Sam' posters on the construction site door. I LOL'ed.
The horizontal blinds in the kitchen (and the resulting shadows while Dean and Samuel talked). How very film noir. :D Nice touch.
Why do I feel like the golf thing was aimed at Jensen? XD
Dean offering Sammy the keys to the Impala. Awwww... Also, we didn't actually get to SEE the Impala this episode, did we? Besides the trunk and that it was under a tarp. Right? How fitting. But. WHERE'S THE SAMULET?!
Everyone knowing Sammy was alive except Dean. And how the whole reunion-with-Bobby was set up (sort of like Dean, and thus we, the audience were all unsure how Bobby would react so Sam only showed up after Lisa and Ben and we all thought Bobby would have a heart attack or throw holy water in his face etc etc. And the resultant surprise when it didn't happen).
Also. The hallucination with Lisa on the ceiling and Ben drinking demon blood. I was grinning through it. Because they essentially had to make another pilot with this episode. So of course, in a pilot of Supernatural, there has to be a woman on the ceiling burning and a child drinking demon blood! XD Even if it's a hallucination.
Sam has been praying to Cas! Awww...(and Dean's lack of comment at the fact. Sassy, ftw?)
