Oh you! There is NO way to answer that that doesn't sound either conceited or coy.

It would be sub-subsistence if it paid less so that answer would be no. But would I do it as a career if it paid a modest living wage?

Honestly? I don't know. It would be fun to stare at Photoshop all day and make fandom friends professionally. BUT...

I get a lot of pleasure from doing a job well, preferably better than others around me. I don't know that I'd get that satisfaction from making icons as I can always find dozens of makers whose work I think is clearly superior.

Also, my ability to make icons varies widely. Some days I feel like I'm firing on all cylinders, others all I make is crap. I had a similar experience as a kid playing the piano; some days the music flowed while others it was all effort.

Making icons as a hobby means those bad days are days I won't produce anything new. Were it my job, it would be a day of failure. I don't think I could be happy like that.

Now I've talked myself around to saying, no, I wouldn't want making icons to be my job. Too bad because it seems like it would be a fun job!
