I have to say, it is like being caught in a time loop! Didn't I just go through this whole hiring committee thing not too long ago? Am I destined to simply walk into these interviews, attempt to play the part of whatever fancy-pants-title job-description thing, and appear to be "just the man" for the job, "number one with a bullet!", the FRESHMAKER!...oh, someone shoot me. I have too little hair to keep traveling around on this tortured kiddie-ride. PHEW! I actually feel better getting that off my mind.
Now, I did go for the interview, and as always, I left with a feeling of I ROCK! For those who know me, this is not a revelation because I ALWAYS feel that way. As SG calls it: "Pampaloning the job". I like what they had to say, moreso than any other position that I have interviewed for. They made it crystal clear that my role would be to run the writing center only, no grants, no budgets (although I will be involved to an extent when hiring tutors). Most importantly, I really got a sense that they liked me. Well, maybe not me per se but the people that I am connected to. I'll explain. The very first question I was asked was,"So, how did you hear about Hostos and what do you know of us?" I naturally replied that I had read about the school and its students on the website, as well as, HERE IT COMES...from my current Director-- Duncan D. That was it. If they would have been allowed to strip down and begin the Caligulian orgies they would have. Five (5) of the seven (7) know Duncan. They all started oohhing and awwing and asking me to say "HI!" Don't get me wrong, this definitely POSITIVE. But it doesn't end, two of the English professors know MYRA...PERSONALLY! When the committee heard that I worked with Myra for over eight years they all nodded the nod of academic approval. So, what does this all mean? NOT A CLUE! It all sounds tremendously positive, but this is me we are talking about people! If you need to be reminded...READ MY LAST FEW POSTS!
I know that am I right for this. Everything that I have done up until this point is everything they want in a Writing Center Coordinator.
I just have to wait to see if they feel the same way, or if my trip around this void continues.
The least they could do is supply motion sickness bags!
