TM 149 - Ancestors

149 - What do your ancestors mean to you?

You would not guess it to see the humble, simple man you know as Fez, but in my home country, my family has long been one of the most important and historically significant bloodlines. In fact, the name of my country is partly based upon my family name-- the two actually share five letters in common!

I would, of course, tell you these names, but it seems this keyboard before me does not have the proper characters. Oh, well.

Going back a dozen generations, my ancestors were the very first on my island to realize that we were living on an island, when one of them went for a walk on the beach and could not understand why they never had to turn around to come back home. My great-great-great-great-great grandmother helped to greet the first Western explorers, who had accidentally reached our shores while looking for a secluded location to hide their stores of contraband pornography.

My great-great uncle was the first person on our island to leave his home, for the promise of a better life in America. He returned two hours later when he got tired of swimming.

And my family continued the tradition by being the first of our village to have all four of our walls and our roof up at the same time.

Yes, I am very proud to be me.
