Trip to the book store....

Apr 25, 2002 15:43

Realized it's been awhile since I've just browsed in a book store, I decided to take the opportunity at lunch. And now I remember why, I'm not allowed in book stores.

First I check out the mags. Nothing captures my attention, so I start weaving through the front tables, which isn't that different from what I'd been reading about through book reviews. Still nada. Stop at the journals. Although I have several blank journals at home, I'm on the search for an unlined, spiral book to take to England next year. Search is over. I found a 6"x6" spiral bound book w/ aluminum endplates. Perfect.

Back to the usual horror/fantasy, picked "A Kiss of Shadows" by Laurel K. Hamilton. Horrible juicy, I know, but after finishing "House of Leaves." Yes, finished the book. No more references to houses in VA, or OH, and even Kent May 4th. Still in fantasy, I tracked down Neil Gaiman's "Harlequin Valentine," first time I've seen it in print.

Behind that are all the art history books (and who doesn't already know I was an art history major). I do my once over there as I already have several shelves of coffee table books and still no table. Which naturally leads enough into the photography section with visions of beautiful black & white already in my head, I glance through several books. As I see the entire shelves in about as much chaos as they used to be at the Fine Arts Library, where it was my job to shelve books. It was a great way to pick up random bits of info. Half remembered images from years ago coming to the surface wishing I could recall titles of books I used to leaf through.

Next was New Age, which seems to continue to grow w/ spell books, and every sort of ritual book one can imagine. I'll skip my mind & will over ritual speal. All seriousness evaporated when I saw the spine that said "Tarot Spells" by Renee. My last tarot reading told me that emotionally things were rough, but creatively my life is going full force. And that's exactly what this week has been.

The last stop was the erotica section, which sometimes I have a high opinion as the New Age. They had a couple of real fetish books, but nothing tha really grabbed my attention. There's a book out there that is all about corsets/fetish. I knew one of these days I would kick myself for not buying, but I was a poor college student at the time and although the author was interesting. I saw her speak one night after work at Wexner Center for the Arts.

Realized it was time to go so looked over the bargain books as I was leaving. Saw two cookbooks, but as 1) i don't get to cook for many people 2) still have yet to wholeheartedly follow directions. However I could not resist picking up a $50 Versace art book for $6.

Over all damage $35. Three things were on my list of things to buy.
