I accidentally discovered Marina and the Diamonds at Coachella on the way to see another band but stayed for her which ended up being one of the best festival decisions I made that day.

I came early not to see the opening band but to observe the light weights practicing for Spring break. The audience was full of young college girls that looked as though they took an hour to get ready only to walk into a club where none of it mattered under dim lights. As someone a decade older I just sat back and smiled to myself. While other adults were watching in horror at the crowds that looked like an H&M ad I was happy for these kids. They're stupid, douches and self absorbed but there was a charm that is often missed in the daylight during regular business hours.

I did have something in common with them which was they weren't just here for the party, they appreciated Marina and the Diamonds as an artist.

This was the same un jaded youth that participated with me in all the sing alongs. I am well aware that these anthems belong to this generation but there was enough for music fans like myself to appreciate. They screamed louder than 12 year old girls at a Taylor Swift concert.

I saw Marina the first time she came to the Commodore which ended up being one of my favorite club shows in the past 10 years.

Last time she came with a huge visual spectacle and was expecting the same this time around. I was disappointed that it was just her band and house lights, however, Marina didn't disappoint in the front woman angle. There's something very PJ Harvey about her that has always been the appeal.

Her vocal style is very addicting to listen to. Her physical mannerisms remind me so much of Kate Bush.

The entire show felt like the exact replica (audience and energy) as the Coachella gig. There were even glow sticks waving against the tasteful EDM house dance beats.

The dance floor was packed. I didn't bother fighting for real estate with the ladies who were wearing heels that were higher than a circus act on stilts.

The set list was mostly greatest hits and fan favorites. The new material translated ridiculously well live. The songs measure up against her other earlier material.

Stage banter was light which is forgivable. She's still working on coming into her own, however, her stage persona is very strong.

The chemistry was hard to read between her and the band. They acted more as beat doctors than team mates. The focal point was Marina which satisfied everyone.

Marina will never be as big as the major pop stars but she will always have a respectable cult following the way PJ Harvey and Kate Bush have.
