And I'm feeling sick!
Just got back from the APPNY Christmas party. Almost didn't go... B/c I hate going to those things / being forced into it / being with work people when I don't have to... But then Mom overslept and almost pulled a, "we'll go later!". I then stormed upstairs saying I hate going to the later mass, undressed and went back to watching TV. 5 minutes later, Mom comes up saying she's ready / forgot about the APPNY party. So I put my clothes back on and went down. Mom was then dilly dallying with the envelopes. Either way we were late for church and stood in the back / mom jumps the line like the Eucharist is gonna run out. I'm so horrible. I visually threw my hands up in the air when she cut the line and just followed suit. Yeah... Once again was at church, but not really. I then didn't want to get out of bed to get ready for the party either.
Got there about an 30 mins before to help set up. But as usual, I found my seat in the corner and surfed the web. Thank you Jesus they now have wifi! Said hi to people I saw the day previous... Dr. L and co showed up. Dancing, eating, pictures. OMG... I honestly think Leida was not having it! Dr. L kept telling her to get up and dance, drink something. She said no. At a point Dr. L gave her some ibuprofen. She took it. But at one point I saw her lead her to the dance floor and she pulled away. He is such a creeper! At one point her and Gloria escaped to the bathroom for like 30 minutes. I've worked there so long they don't even bother me with the dancing / drinking anymore. Anyway, Marna gave them a list of line dances to learn. Gloria seemed really excited and went up for a few dances. Chris went around the table dancing with everyone, including the insurance reps.
Apparently Claudia met
7500centfish? She asked how she was... She also asked where Dad was.
Yesterday went to PA to see
Jesus. Left home around 7 and went to one of Mom's friend's house. We then drove to Staten Island to hop on the bus. We met up with
7500centfish at an "Amish" buffet. The food was bland and the dessert selection wasn't great. I mean, I got an apple pie, which tasted good, but I remember them having more stuff last time than just pie and cakes.
7500centfish and I then ditched the bus and went to the theater... Mom said the show started at 2. Wrong... It was 3. So we hung out a bit and waited for the group. They had some cute toys / shirts... But they were only kid sized. :(
The show... Mom was right... Kinda. It was the passion, but it kinda spanned his entire ministry. It started with Peter and the Sons of Zebedee fighting then getting recruited by Jesus. They then jump to the loaves and the fishes, sermon on the mount, just mentioning the Prodigal son. I dunno... It seemed to skim over stories and... Not really focusing on them to have enough of a teaching point. Then they go to Martha's house / Lazarus. Jesus DJs turned tables at the Temple. Nicodemus.
Jesus casts demons into pigs... Lol. No one seemed to recognize this. But I knew of it b/c of Catholic Stuff You Should Know! I then tried to look up the bible passage, but... What is the point of a Bible App if you can't read the bible without wifi!?! I mean... The only Catholic version available for download is the Latin Vulgate. (Not really, they just don't have the most commonly used one for DL.) How is that gonna help me!?! Anyway... First act ends with the storm / Jesus walking on water. Peter stepping out of the boat and Jesus saving him. This is the Title Poster... So, basically what I thought was the entire show was the 1st act. 2nd Act is pretty much Jesus Christ Superstar, but not. I mentioned to
7500centfish, if JCS is Judas's story, this is Peter's. Lazarus dies / Jesus resurrects him. Judas's betrayal. The Last Supper. Was it sung at all? Overall it wasn't a very musical musical. Like I don't think Jesus sung anything, his scenes were more speaking / teaching / monologues. Anyway... I found the wording interesting. He said this is my body, this is my blood, but then he said "When you do this, remember me." Not, "do this" not like a command. So... I felt it skirted many theological difference, staying mostly nondenominational. I feel like they had a generic Jesus saves message more than anything, but they did say repent and sin no more. About the only thing I found pro Catholic was this scene after The Last Supper and Jesus basically gave authority to the apostles. There was a comment... In the show referring the Jewish "Priest" calling them corrupt. Then OMG... When they had a temple scene it was very... Like ritualistic. Anyway, I wonder what the demographics of a typical S&S audience is. I mean... Christianity is almost split 50/50. Depending where you are it could me more or less in 1 direction. I don't know... I kinda envision a majority of the audience is evangelical / born again. Oh, then after the last supper... Garden of Gethsemane... It was weird. They had a voice over and... I don't know if it's supposed to be Jesus's thoughts or he was being tempted by the devil. It was weird! They then skimmed over the Crucifixion with an Our Father montage. Lol... When Mom said she thought the story was the Passion, I said, it can't be! Catholics are the only ones who care about the Passion! They then have a side by side of Jesus being wrapped in swaddling clothing in the manger to him being wrapped in burial clothe. The resurrection / ascension. Then Peter's sermon. I was expecting more from that last scene... I honestly don't remember what was said... Oh yeah, they received the holy spirit and I think he told them to repent and follow Jesus.
As I told
7500centfish I thought it was too feel good Jesus. I then felt the need to watch Jesus Christ Superstar. I've watched it before going to these shows and... It has left me emotionally drained and... I wanted that feeling. As I kinda stated it's... Like surface level, not in depth. It didn't blow me away with its teachings. I mean... I get the audience it's for, but if some random nonreligious / Christian person saw it, it wouldn't make me want to learn more about it. Haha... I remember when they had JCS on NBC I wondered if people who aren't Christian would watch / what they would think. B/c... I kinda feel like if they hadn't known the story, like just the plot, it's kinda all over the place. Like I said, there is this one scene and they don't explain who he is really, but unless you know the story, you wouldn't know it's Pontius Pilate!
P.s. I initially started the bus trip reading Mere Christianity... Till someone started playing a CD of them singing karaoke. Ugh... I then drowned it out listening to a few episodes of Catholics Stuff You Should Know on shuffle. Then as I said on the way back I watched JCS and then some more CSYSK.
