Date Night with Elliot and Mommy!

Aug 13, 2016 00:04

Went to the movies to see Pete's Dragon.  When I had first seen the trailer I was like ew!  But I began to warm to it.  Feeling nostalgic and wanting to have a fun night out, etc.  Went after work.  Ended up going to the 3D version.  Overrated...  But it was an earlier showing and I have a Mets game to "watch"...  So Mommy and I went after I had a quick meal.  Ate something small, expecting to eat at the theater.  Mom drove.  Bought the tickets.  Bought nachos, icee and water for Mom.  Sat a little off from the middle, toward the front of the middle section.  Haha...  Took Elliot out and took Elliot selfies...  I wanted to make 3D glasses for him, but didn't have time.

Previews...  A bunch of animated Disney things.  Nothing I'd see.

Movie started.  I like that it was set in the 70s/80s.  They didn't outright say / force it down at you.  With the exception of a few scenes you couldn't really tell when it was.  It was like, like the flashbacks were majorly old school, but "present day" being 6 years later, not so much so.  Part of it felt like ET to me...  In the sense it was a kid's action movie set in the 80s.  But then it tried to be cute / funny at times, but it fell short.  Maybe it was the audience I was with.  Like only 1 scene got a big laugh.  When some person being wheeled into the hospital fell off the stretcher when Elliot made a booming sound.  Not when he sneezed on the Baddie Gavin.  There was no Back Woods adopted Family.  No travelling Crocodile tear selling charlatans.  I guess Robert Redford was the crazy non drunk Grandfather type.  No lost sailor boyfriend.  No Pete going to school / everyone excepting him and Elliot.  But...  Elliot had more than a goofy character.  More loyal dog like.  Bordering on parental at times.  And it focused on him at times, with him trying to find Pete / showing emotion when he saw him with the new peeps.  Um...  It was set in NW Woodlands.  Haha...  I was half expecting a commentary on deforestation.  But that didn't happen.  At least not so overt / in your face.  Of course at the end they have to part ways.  OMG!!!  The woman behind me was ugly sobbing!  And the guy next to me shooshed her!  HAHAHA!!!  Overall it was OK.  Maybe I was hyping it too much, when I tried to keep an open mind.  Like I said, in a sense, it fell short, but it was enjoyable.  I'd see it again.

Sat through the credits.  I was prepared to sob at hearing Candle On The Water.  But that didn't happen.  As in, it wasn't shown.  Not sure if I'm gonna get the soundtrack at this point.

OMG!!!  I feel like I've been missing something all my life!!!  So there was a plumber by one day and Mom was arguing with the guy saying we had a cesspool, when Mom was adamant we were connected to the sewer.  The plumber is like but everyone around here has a cesspool!  Mom was like so we haven't cleaned out our cesspool in 30 years?  HAHAHA!!!  Anyway, whatever was clogged got unclogged.  But Mom mentioned, she actually mentioned it in the past as well...  Basically we're part of a housing development / "gated" community, sans gate and we live in one of the model homes.  Anyway, this community has it's own sewer system and as Mom said, one point had a community pool / club house.  So I decided to google said community and people are talking on message boards asking about the community and mentioning this pool.  As recent at 2 years ago.  Where is this pool???  And of course I can't even google for the pool, nothing shows up.  I do end up doing an aerial on google maps and find something that could be it...  It's gated off within the community.  So...  Like I said, I've been missing out all these years!  But then again...  I live on an island.  Its not like I take advantage of the beach.  And...  Maybe if when we had grown up maybe we went to the pool instead of going for ice cream or Adventureland.  Who knows.  Booshie!

Oh and FU interwebs!  For convincing me back in the day it was Elliott and not Elliot!
