It's that time of year again when the cookbooks are supposed to come out and the cherry blossom viewing plans are supposed to ramp up into full gear

As much as I'm sure some people will not see the sense in a time spent enjoying yourself and nature's beauty w/ the loss and the destruction, I do think the think of renewal and living in the moment is rather suited for this spring. Enjoy the cherry blossoms and the day spent w/ loved ones, sweetie. *hugs*
Hanami has always been the time of year that I recharge my mental and emotional batteries. There is an odd peace found sitting amid the cherries that even the million visitors to DC doesn't diminish. People know that the trees here were a gift from Japan, but not many know the rest of the story. The area from which the trees were sent had a flood many years later that destroyed all their trees and cuttings from the DC trees were sent back to their home city to replant the sakura in that area. I hope that in years to come, DC extends the offer of trees again when the rebuilding efforts start in Minami and Iwate.
With everything that's happened and continues to happen in Japan, your friend would be honored that you would continue with your tradition and be remembered under the blossoming sakura. As you and your friends enjoy each other's company, take a little while and find some happiness where you can.
I'm terribly sorry to hear of all the bad news you've gotten today, but it's good that you can also see the brightness where there didn't seem to be any. *hugs*
I didn't know Taylor, though I've met many of the fine young people that go to Japan on the JET program including my own teacher's son. I hope, knowing what I've learned about her from watching the interviews locally with her parents and sister and from knowing her co-workers, that she wouldn't mind my honoring her spirit in this way. Still waiting for word on my teacher's friend's son and hoping that family gets better news. *hugs back*

Not that I can speak for them, but I seriously doubt they'd mind. If anything, I think they'd be touched that you chose to honor her that way.
Oh, I so hope they get some good news soon!
