Had the girls to the vet Friday for a follow-up, check-up, annual shots combo thing.
Dippy-chan has lost a lot of weight. Too much. Her need to chew is keeping her from eating the quantity of wet food that she needs. She's been chewing everything else in the house, including mom's manga (grrrr) but wet food is just not appetizing enough.
So, today I've ventured back into the kitchen and reinvented dry cat food. I'd been trying to work out a recipe in my head for a while. Trouble, of course, being making one that was nutritionally complete and close to what their wet food is like.
I had a few minor substitutions to make, but I've come up with a winner. Dippy-chan ate three of the 'fish cookies' as soon as they cooled off from coming out of the oven this morning. Bastet doesn't like them, but she's eating the wet food so it's all good. I'll just have to continue making both as needed.
We're also increasing Dippy-chan's prednisolone back up to every other day. Steroids have a side effect toward weight gain, but in her case that's good and it's a med she's already on, so that's okay.
Bastet is losing a little weight, but nothing significant. What we had thought was just a torn nail from climbing onto the bed, however, turned out to be an infection in her hind feet. Now, she has to have medicine on her little toesies every night. Not being a fool, I get daddy to do that part.
*polishes her innocent mommy halo*
Both girls were down in the dumps for 48 hours from their annual rabies shots, but are doing much better now. Dippy-chan has to go back for a different vaccine in two weeks, but we keep them spaced apart since their reactions aren't so good. Need to give her little immune system a break in between.
With a little luck, between the meds and the new cookie food, we'll be able to show the vet some positive progress on the weight front by then.
