Couple of various bits and bobs:

First, a thanks to the ladies of the fanzone for a heads up on The Curse of Steptoe on DVD. Play.com is offering it up on preorder as part of a Legends of Comedy triple feature. Head's up, looks like a region 2 release only [that's it, I'm either moving or getting a region free DVD player ;).]

Steptoe and Son was one of the most successful comedy series ever, giving birth to the modern sitcom and transforming its actors into national treasures. It told the story of two rag-and-bone men, Harry H Corbett (played by Jason Isaacs) and Wilfrid Brambell (Phil Davis), trapped together for eternity. But off-screen, a stranger story would mirror fiction, as the two men find themselves unable to escape their inner complexities or each other.

Second, there's a really touching piece about how Jason read a fallen soldier's letters as part of a war memorial courtesy of the independent.co.uk.

Mr Isaacs explained that he had been asked to recite some well known poetry by producers of the show but was so moved by the young soldier's letters that he asked to use them instead at the event on 8 November at Duke of Yorks Theatre in London.

"They have the beauty and lyricism of a young boy of today who could be walking past us in the street. Unlike the great poets of previous world wars, there is no ability to distance ourselves from it," said the actor. "His exhilaration at finally getting to do the thing he has lived and trained for and his attempt to communicate that to his family is very affecting. I am twice as old as Cyrus was and I over think and analyse. His words seem to come straight from the heart. There is no literary pretension. I felt like I was listening to a video diary rather than reading a letter."
