For anyone who is as taken by the nocturnes of Chopin as I am, here is an entire album’s worth performed (mostly) by Peter Schmalfuss, whom I believe to be the absolute best interpreter of Chopin.
- Nocturne No.1 In B-Flat Minor Op.9-1
- Nocturne No.2 In E-Flat, Op.9-2
- Nocturne No.3 In B-Major, Op.9-3
- Nocturne No.4 In F-Major, Op.15-1
- Nocturne No.5 In F-Sharp Major, Op.15-2
- Nocturne No.6 In G-Minor, Op.15-3
- Nocturne No.7 In C-Sharp Minor, Op.27-1
- Nocturne No.8 In D-Flat Major, Op.27-2
- Nocturne No.9 In B-Major, Op.32-1
- Nocturne No.10 In A-Flat Major, Op.32-2
- Nocturne No.11 In G-Minor, Op.37-1
- Nocturne No.12 In G-Major, Op.37-2
A review on Amazon of this collection: "Nothing short of a religious experience. If you love Chopin, this recording of his nocturnes (1-12) is outstanding. Peter Schmalfuss is a gifted artist and his performance on this CD is the best I’ve ever heard."

This album was a huge help to me in high school when I had terrible bouts of insomnia that affected my productivity during the day. It allowed me to clear my head and find a bit of peace, but besides that, it really is just a beautiful collection of music and I could wax poetic on Schmalfuss and his talent. I've listened to so many other versions of these same songs before I came across his and the difference in emotional connectivity is night and day. This particular CD is out of print now but you can snag one of the remaining copies on Amazon for as little as .50 plus S&H, used, if you prefer legit music sources. (That's what I did.)
TL;DR - Download, stick on mp3 player, lie down in darkened room, close eyes, and weep in ecstasy at the beauty of some Romantic era classical music.
And if you'd like any of these individually, I would be happy to send it to you.
