You know what's really going to suck?
In about three days I'm going to be completely alone for a week. It's going to be just like that movie: Home Alone. Only... without the creepy old people trying to get into my house. Hopefully. But I will try to have company over as often as possible. Or something. No parties, though. Maybe... We'll see.
But that leaves only one thing to do...
Okay, several hundred things to do, but that's not the point. (Well, maybe it is.)
But I mean, I have to get my butt out of the house. And when I am in the house, I'll try to be productive, and do things like... making... one of these!:
"Way to Dawn"
I've been working on a little project, which was more-or-less a spur of the moment kind of thing, but in the end, it seems that more than one person wants one now. We'll see how the first one turns out, then I'll take commissions. :D
---
The basic image of this monster of a project. Right now I'm currently bashing my head off the wall for choosing to make this thing.
Now, go ahead, start reading how the progress is on this thing.
---
I guess things have to start with a plan, so I went out to find myself an image of what I wanted to be making. Overall, it's quite the strange design. But at the same time: I wanted a challenge.
So I got myself the image, and created a grid of how I would lay out, and project/expand the design onto the wood.
---
From the gridded design, I sketched the blade onto the MDF (medium density fiber) wood. Though, I only had 7" wide pieces, so I had to cut the 'wing' out on a separate piece.
---
I forgot to take a picture once I had cut the wood with the jigsaw, so this is the step after that. The hardest step, in my opinion, was having to carve out the 'blades' of this piece. I had to chisel down a one inch piece of wood down to about two millimeters. Fun stuff.
---
Same image, better detail. At this point, I had rounded the edges of the hilt, that way it was more comfortable to hold. It looks pretty spiffy, even without being complete, so you know you just want to wield it.
---
Now I have a good number of details carved out, which, in all honesty was much, much, much more easily done with the fixing of my Dremel tool. Every carpenter/woodworker should have one of these. For serious.
The 'wing' still isn't attached, but it balances nicely, giving the impression that it is attatched. Ho ho ho, the deception of photography.
---
Now I've got the 'wing' riveted and glued in place, so I doubt that it's going to fly off anytime soon. I've also got more detail done on the hilt, where the four-pointed star is, it's now all dimensioned and even the feathers are being cut in.
Yay for display stands. Yeah, that's my guitar tripod.
---
Some of the details on the hilt, still incomplete.
---
Another detail shot of the hilt.
So, was that too much geek for you, or what? Huh, huh?
Anyways, now I have four other people wanting to commission me something of the like. Just grand. But I hope to make some profit, because that'd be nice. Anyways... I think I'll just work on some digital paintings now. I have some WIP screens of those, too, if you care to
check them out.
Icy Burn - I like dragons a whole lot. **This image is huge, I didn't really take the time to shrink it down. *too lazy*
Sora - I think I've been playing KH a little too much. Who's excited for the third game? =D? Lets hope the battles will have a little more vigor to them, this time. *found that the second game was... pretty to look at, but not very challenging*
Anyways... Good night/Morning! (3am)
