So in the provincial election, Doer smashed the Conservatives, nice. But, it gets even better for me. My father (whom I've never spoken highly of on here), his wife Leslie Worthington was running as a Liberal candidate in Concordia (Doer's riding) and got absolutely throttled (voting results- Doer:3,714, Worthington: 322). You might say that the Liberals just can't do well here in Manitoba, but in percentage and number of votes, she placed 55 out of the 57 Liberal candidates.
This is where it gets funny. My "stepmother" doesn't know shit about politics. She doesn't even have a good handle on the right wing/left wing basics. I've talked a little about politics with her and she gets easily lost. Any of her leanings that she has expressed, well, let's just say she likes that they bombed the hell out of the Middle East. Hmm... should I also mention that she's a racist, or maybe that she has breast implants? Anyways, she loves to bitch about health care, and get herself on the news, which she has a knack for. From the talk radio shows mostly, she got some notoriety and the Liberal party wanted to pick up on this. Jon Gerrard started calling her to run against Doer on a regular basis. For about a year she hemmed and hawed about running. Then, at the last minute, as the Liberals needed to submit their roster for the election, she decided to run. Yesterday, my brother called her and asked what she did for the campaign (speeches, debates, media, door-to-door, etc.), and she replied, "Meh, I didn't bother. Doer's going to win anyways." You gotta love that kind of inspirational spirit, especially when you're given the opportunity to be a representative for your province. All I can say is, beware of who you vote for. I feel sorry the 322 saps.
