AU history:
Due to her parent’s and society’s strict codes of conduct towards the outside world, Chel has always felt confined in her environment. When her parents died, she soon realized the true horror of dying in the same place that you she was born in, without ever seeing any of the outside world.
Overcome with stress, she soon steals a treasure from the high priest’s temple and runs away, where she runs into Tulio and Miguel by the "Great Big Rock." After the explain that they're from Spain and that they're looking for El Dorado, the City of Gold, she lies and explains that it's overrun with cannibals and she fled to save herself from a sacrifice of sorts. She begs them to take her back to Spain with them, and they reluctantly agree since she's so desperate, rowing to Cuba before returning to Spain on a supplies ship as stowaways. During this time together, she garners new knowledge and certain affection of Miguel and Tulio, initially platonic, but perhaps something more. Once they return to Spain, they recieve letters to attend Disney Academy.
During this time, the Mist is overtaking El Dorado. Yet, in the city's seclusion, Chel has no way to access this information and is unaware of the Mist and its exploits...for the time being.
