After learning how to use the vibratome today I came home, had dinner, and then laid down for what was supposed to be a 40 minute nap. Except that I slept until 10:45pm. I woke up and decided to get up and brush my teeth since they felt gross and drink water because I was dehydrated, but now I'm on the computer of course and not back to sleep yet. There are more loud and obnoxious people out there tonight, though it's not as bad as before. I really hope that everyone calms down in like a week and it goes back to relatively quiet. Though, at the moment I'm feeling rather cranky, so all their yelling and whooping is making me really irritable.

The animal care & use class I took last week was totally pointless and a complete waste of time. It went over nothing on how to handle the animals or even covered the basics of humane handling and care. It was a 3 hour overview of the agencies involved in oversight of animal protocols and who the university answers to and all that. Considering that it is actually called "Animal Care & Use 101" I expected there to be something far more relevant to working with animals in the lab, such as detailing care, conditions, handling, acceptable euthanasia methods, etc.... not administrative policy. Even going over proper documentation would have been far more relevant and useful.

Since I got stuck with the dregs of TAships for this term I decided that I would start early for the winter term. I emailed one prof, who said he's not sure who is teaching it, and emailed another who told me to come in. She said that she had another person come by earlier that day who also really needs a TAship, so the decision was going to be tough for her. Anyway, I found an email in my inbox today saying that she was offering the position to me, and I emailed her right back and said I'd take it. YAY. So, I'll be TAing Developmental Genetics next term and it will be a smaller class, less of a time commitment, and more advanced material. Also, I'll get to utilize my background in limb morphogenesis and the new info I'm learning in my new lab on neurogenesis.

This morning I couldn't find my keys. It took me like 10 minutes of searching, and since there's a pile of crap under my coffee table I finally just pulled the rug out and dumped everything that was on it into a pile and then tossed the rug aside into heap. Still didn't find my keys, though. I'll put it back later, once I clean up all the crap that's on the floor, check the floor for puzzle pieces, and vacuum that area (UGH, my whole apartment needs cleaning. Help please?). Anyway, Kinase has turned the rug heap into a nest for himself and looks super cute nestled in it. Speaking of which, he's been really great at making a cute nuisance of himself the past few days, particularly in the morning. And he makes these little noises like he's fussing at me. I have no clue what he wants, since petting him doesn't seem to put an end to it. He's such a talkative little guy.

Yesterday I rounded up all the spare change, minus the quarters which I set aside for laundry, in my apartment and car and dumped it in one of those CoinStar machines. I got $15! (And there's about $10 in quarters, too.)
