I went bar hopping with two of my friends last night. We ended up finishing the night at Little Prague at a table comparing New York and Oregon to California. Also, we were talking about how saying you're a grad student is a total turn-off for guys. At Sophia's there was live music and a ton of people and we each ended up chatting with various guys and had the same experience: as soon as we mentioned we were grad students the interest was flat-out gone. Woe. It's kind of frustrating that being a woman who's intelligent and has career ambitions still has such a stigma attached to it. I thought we were past that, but look at how people react to our black president and we're really not as progressive as we like to think our society is.

But, it was fun because the atmosphere was good and people were having a good time. There were SO MANY people there because so many undergrads are back in town since classes are starting in like 2 weeks. The music was pretty good, too. This one guy came up to me and asked for a hug, and he seemed harmless enough so I hugged him. And it was harmless and fun and nice.

After the night out we went back to my place and one of my friends crashed on my futon. But first we set up the hookah and were talking and I got some gossip on her lab and PI, which was the lab I really wanted to join. Also, we were playing with Kinase because he was there and wanting attention and to be part of everything. She enjoyed him, and except for one incident where he was up by her head in the middle of the night I think he spent most of it next to me in bed. I almost felt like he was guarding me.

I got up just before noon to find my friend gone, so I went to the market for some foods and came back and then napped most of the afternoon with my cat sprawled upside down beside me.

The weather today is awesome. It's overcast and cool, though slightly humid (WTF?) and I'm really hoping for rain. I opened all my windows, but it's gone from 70s to 80s so it's a bit uncomfortable, but it will cool off soon I'm sure and I need fresh air in my apartment.
