No true Rachelle

This week's LJ Idol topic, No true Scotsman, has had me stumped since Thursday. I've had plenty of ideas but no clue how to organize them on paper. Then this came to me:

“No true Christian
Could ever be gay.
Leave yourself at the door
And you’re welcome to stay.”

“No true mother
Would give her kid away.
You’ve no right to call him your son,
All right? Okay?”

“No true bisexual
Would actually settle for a man.
You’re really just a wannabe.
Just saying you’re queer because you can.”

“No true social worker
Would rather work retail.
Go out, save the world!
Cause a riot, go to jail!”

Those are just a handful of labels
I share with you today.
And the comments from well-meaning people
Who unintentionally push me away.
Other days may include “mentally-ill,”
“Autistic,” or “an adult.”
When this world gets too judgmental,
Won’t you lock me in a vault?

I am more than my diagnoses,
More than a stereotype.
I’m glad you’ve got your own thoughts
But you might want to shut your windpipe.

Because those “encouraging words…”
… just aren’t.
