Hm...
I must have a low tolerance for alcohol again or something. I made myself a drink and now I am all introspective and thinking about stuff. Usually, I would assail Meghaan with my thinkingness and force her to stop whatever entertaining activity she was doing to engage in conversation and deep analysis of situations and ideas...She doesn't like this so much, poor thing.
However, here I am, stuck with no captive audience but the cats and now I am all thinking and stuff. Blah.
I have been watching movies all day, besides exercising and going down to Berkeley City Hall to contest a parking ticket. I have also been cleaning and feeding the animals and taking care of little things around the house, as per my homemaker job description. And now I am done staring at the TV...though I love it.
Today and yesterday I have watched (if I remember them all): Basic Instinct, the Wrestler, Mom and Dad Save the World, Elegy, the Walker...There are a couple others, I am sure, but I don't remember what. I also watched the season finale of Dexter and it made me sad. I keep surprising myself all day finding myself thinking about that Dexter season finale and getting sad...Sad about a tv show, it's just...well...sad. I am not sad that the season ended, I am sad at how it ended. It actually touched me...So weird! A tv show about a serial killer, and the season finale touched me and upset me...so strange. Even pumping my brain full of other movies hasn't drowned it out. Does this happen to other people?
The Wrestler was a good movie. I was prepared to dislike it and think it was crap just because everybody had said how good it was...but it was a nice, meaty movie with character development and everything. also, Marisa Tomei is hot...It's funny. When you watch movies like the Wrestler or Striptease or what-have-you, you get this idea that strippers are good looking women that look like they have taken care of themselves their whole lives and have lovely skin and muscles and stuff....when you see actual strippers, say, as a gas station attendant when they come in to buy cigarettes, you see emaciated, pock-marked women on their third kid and trying to maintain a meth habit...I would much rather see strippers in the movies than in real life. I have never been to a strip club, and I don't much intend to, ever, for that matter. Gross.
Oh! another movie I saw was Transsiberia. ok, so I think Showtime and HBO go through cycles where they gain access to movies all with the same actors or directors in them sometimes. Does anyone else notice this? Transsiberia has Woody Harrelson and so does The Walker. Transsiberian has Ben Kingsley and so does Elegy. They were all playing in the same two day period on Showtime. It's gotta be that they gained access to these actor's most recent movies, right? Transsiberia is about an American couple (though in real life, I think the wife is British) on a train in Russia who get mixed up in a drug scandal or something. It is a thriller. Made me feel chilly with all the ice and snow...also a little nostalgic for a real winter. Things are actually GREENER here in the winter...hm...
Elegy had Penelope Cruz as well as Ben Kingsley and was really depressing about a college professor who starts an affair with a student and comes to terms with dying and getting old. oy.
Mom and Dad Save the World is from the early 90's and has John Lovitz and Teri Garr in it...it is totally in that 90's style of spoofy scifi, totally yuck-it-up comedy...like Biodome or Encino Man and so on.
I think I shall go read some more of Pillars of Earth or Lord of the Rings now...less thinking, more reading!!!
