Obsession. Need. Compulsion. Hopelessness. Conflicting emotions burst within her like a supernova.

She had fallen asleep, Kaye knew, but to her it felt like entering another world. A world where everything twisted and melted and colors made no sense...but she could forget. That was enough.

Yellow.

It was yellow.

The chunky brick felt odd ( Read more... )

Hands twisted in the coverlet, for a mere second she is caught there, eyes wide and vulnerable. Still half in the dream, Kaye blinks away the confusion and there he is...

The walls slam down.

"No."

"I don't take orders from you." It's almost worse that her eyes are dark and unfeeling, colder than the water he brought her.

The remnants of a nightmare still hang around her head. She can't move, won't give him the satisfaction.

Don't listen. Doesn't want to listen. Not to him, not to the words twisting around her like enchantments.

Snake-tongued betrayer. Kaye scowls, the fuzziness lifting in the face of adrenalin.

"Shut up! Why don't you just shut up!?"

Usually when she yells, people yell back. But then, Roiben has never been like other people.

Why? Why? Why? The words echo again and again, pounding against her head, thickening her throat.

Silence. The kind of silence a death brings. Kaye still remembers how quiet the funeral home had been. Just the barely stifled sobs of a heartbroken family. But underneath that... silence. Because something had been lost that no amount of crying could replace.

Tears spring to her eyes; quick and unwanted. She lets them fall with a fashioned disinterest. They leave beautiful patterns on the sheets, she thinks.

Don't. The girl shivers. It seems to her an eternity. Balancing on the edge of her eyelashes, the tears fall heavier.

"Did you think I would credit the tears of a Pixie?"

"Don't." Her swollen mouth forms the words, she tugs her hand futilely; it doesn't want to come back.

She lost her nerve looking into those eyes.

Weakly, "Just go."
