[Tony is dicking around in what looks to be a junkyard, wearing a beat-up tank top with a funny blue glow right in the center. There are piles of trash here and there, but most importantly is the pile of metal sitting right next to the device, gleaming in all its...dirty junkiness ( Read more... )

[ Ariadne makes a mental note of "vibranium"; whatever it is, it's not something they covered in her classes involving building materials. She's not going to ask about that, though, at least not yet. ]

Work on what?

Building. Creating. Getting back what didn't get brought with me here. It's an identity thing.

I sort of figured out the first two on my own, thanks. I don't know a lot of people who think it's fun to dig through junkyards and collect pieces of metal unless they're going to do something with it. [ Though if she did, this would be the city to meet them in. ]

Which part is an "identity thing"; the creating or what wasn't brought with you?

Insightful, aren't you.

Both, if we're going to be particular about technicalities. I make stuff. I invent stuff. I hate the current coffee maker so I make a better one and have it talk, too. And in reverse, I liked the shit I had back home, but unfortunately I'll have to make do with junkyards and #1 bright copper.

I try.

[ Her mind runs through what copper can be used for; unfortunately, other than obvious things like wires, all that comes up is architecture. She's not sure why, but she sort of doubts this guy is using it to cover his roof. She continues to run through the properties, looking for something -- she learned early on that if you want to be taken seriously, you have to show of at least a little. ] It has good soldering properties, at least. Weldable.

A strength and a weakness. In my case, I'd prefer something that won't cook me alive if, say, Doctor Going to Rule the World decided to toss a miniature volcano in my direction.

[ Delusions of grandeur? Maybe. But, well, she's already met a talking dinosaur, an angel, and at least three wizards. One more potentially crazy person won't hurt. ]

You're building armor of some sort? [ Pause. ] ... With copper?

I know, I get it. Don't you dare judge me, persecute me, or report my grievous misconduct to Hammer, I'm working with what I can get at this point, and it's not much. At best I'll have a skeleton. A base. At worst I'll make a robot to fetch my coffee.

At least you're trying. That's more than I've got, but it's a little harder to build buildings in the basement than suits of armor. [ PASIV devices are working out fine, however. ] Though really, you might be better off breaking into apartments and stealing refrigerators to scrap.

Architect?

For shame. And yet-- a perfect suggestion in a city that heals itself.

Architect. [ Never mind that she doesn't technically have her degree yet. ]

Heals itself? ... Wait, you're actually going to steal them? [ Priorities. ]

Worse comes to worse? No. But an apartment or three in and of itself doesn't sound too bad of an idea. One certainly isn't going to be enough for a workroom.

There are townhouses, you know. Basement and everything. [ Nevermind that she knows this because one of her roommates burnt their apartment down. ]

Even better- you'd think they'd include a housing guide to the regular one. Seriously, just walk in and pick one? Realtors must hate it here.

I don't know; I'm in the process of moving and it looks like we're going to have to pay up.

Then again, I was turned into a cheetah for a few days, so I might have missed some of the details.

What a coincidence, so am I.

Extraordinary. Now, how did it feel?
