Well at this point he's still at the stage where he's into finding caches of 'his' weapons and destroying them. He's not Superman, dropping everything because there's a bridge collapsing somewhere, y'know? He doesn't need a suit that's there at a moment's notice.
A valid point but I'm actually speculating for the future when he becomes a part of the Avengers Initiative, really. If the ending of Iron Man alludes to anything, it's that he's starting to get into the mindset he could be a hero.
*shrug* He's rich. He can just lug it around with him under lock and key (fingerprint lock, retinal scan, whatever). Given a few years I'm sure he'd be able to come up with a way to get into it without being bolted in. I love that scene, too.
True enough though I doubt he won't be questioned if he lugs around a suitcase since I don't think the armour would fold flat like earlier models of comic versions and have it fit in a briefcase of all things.
As for the other way than to be bolted into the armour, I would say magnetism but that won't work.
If we know Stark, he'll figure it out, somehow. I'm just trying to think of a way he could do it months after the end of the movie when he's more comfortable with the Superhero gig.
What if, instead of having it in a briefcase (He's not exactly that kind of businessman..) he has in the back of one of those damn Audi's he drives everywhere?
I know it sounds awful like Transformers, but it could work.
-snickers- I can just imagine Fury telling Tony that there is no way in hell an Audi would stay on the hellcarrier.
Good thought, though I tend to really stay away from TF and Marvel together. >>; My brain broke when I found the comic crossover between the two. -shudders-
I was reading a more recent Iron Man comic a few days ago and he has it flown out different places on private planes he owns, in sealed crates. Because it's so heavy and whatnot he tells everyone it's actually his car or some such thing.
