recs ahoy
I'm thinking that there are probably some members of this community who have seen the movie but haven't read a lot of the comics, and who are searching for that perfect slashable man for Tony. So...may I take this opportunity to point out the awesome that is Captain America/Iron Man? Sure, Tony/Rhodey has its perks, and I see the appeal of Tony/*insert AI here*, but Tony and Steve are practically married in canon. (In other words: come to the darkside! We have (questionably) gay men!) I've long been a lurker in the Avengers fandom, but I'm finally stepping up to claim my Tony/Steve love. ;D
The best place to go for an intro to the ship is probably
elspethdixon's ship manifesto; the community of choice is, I believe,
cap_ironman, where the members have graciously compiled a list of the slashiest moments, complete with scans.

Resurrection, Reconstruction, and Redemption by
elspethdixon and
seanchai | Doom brings Steve back from the dead. Hijinks ensue, some of which might vaguely be considered plot. Surprisingly, this isn't actually crack-fic - it's just Marvel. Multi-part, complete. This is probably THE definitive Steve/Tony fic, and it's a wonderful read. It's set post-Civil War, but for all that it's incredibly accessible to readers that aren't familiar with the comics. There are a handful of sequels that are just as noteworthy.
The Roughest Day by

seanchai | Steve is in a motorcycle accident, Tony catches a cold, and someone may be after the New Avengers. Multi-part, complete. Lovely and funny, with some touching moments between Steve and Tony and a perfectly-captured Peter Parker.
The Illusion of Youth + series by
metallic_sweet | AU to all current Marvel timelines ; The Maine S.H.I.E.L.D. facility becomes the catalyst for a clandestine friendship between Steve Rogers, the recently revived Captain America, and the secretive, young scientist who revived him, Tony Stark. Series, WIP (?).
Everybody Got Naked and We Got Cap Back Day by Letterblade | Hope tastes foul, Tony's discovered, and isn't any better for the system than the old ethanol. This time his helmet's off, and Jan isn't buzzing up over him, Thor isn't looming at the foot of the table, and he's pretty sure they'll be fighting in about five minutes. Oneshot. With a title like that, what more can I say?

crimsonquills | As it turns out, the Extremis hadn't quite finished rewriting Tony's brain. The only potential fix has...consequences. Multi-part, complete. Just the right balance between angst and fluff.
The Steve/Tony community is growing but still relatively small; there's not a ton of fic out there, but almost all of what does exist is of amazing quality. I do have some more recs at my recs comm under this tag. And...enjoy? :)
