just a random picture from Laos
A weekend BBQ with the family of a Laos friend.
The central bowl was a Duck blood salad. The ducks were being grilled while we eat the salad. The bowl behind that was BBQ dog and the vegetables I forget the name were a delicious turnip like root with a crisp apple like flavour and texture.
Of course the lot is washed down with copious glasses of iced BeerLao.
The long saga of buying my boat is drawing to an end ... I think I have said that before.
Although the paperwork at the Thai end has been complicated it has gone smoothly as long as you go step by step. It has been my bank at the Australian end that has caused the biggest and unnecessary delays, been bureaucratic and caused the most stuff ups. I wont go into detail, I don't want to relive the nightmare but Australian banks may be the most profitable in the world and surfed the GFC untarnished but from the customer point of view they are f**cked.
Anyhow it should all be over by next week .... I think I have said that before.
More entertaining is the local news. I think I have already reported on the fire that killed four people, the local gangster in a roman soldier uniform and the german that was beaten up by the local tuk tuk gestapo for arguing about his fare.
In the case of the fire in the Tiger Bar, the documents that are supposed to show the extension where the fire occured was legally built were all destroyed in a flood in the govt offices some years ago. ... Hmmm !!!! but this is Thailand.
Also of interest is the new Head of the National Parks in the region who publicly vowed to get rid of some 20 or so luxury apartments or resorts that have been illegally built on National Park land. He had only been in the job a month but the week after he made this public commitment he was transferred back to Bangkok. Hmmm !! - but this is Thailand.
Police from Bangkok came down and did make a raid on an illegally built resort on one of the islands because they believed it was running a casino. They resort owners who included an Englishman and a Chinese company connecected to the casino in Savannaket in Laos are nowhere to be found and their has been no news since. ... Hmmmm!!! but this is Thailand.
The main headlines at the moment are dominated by the playboy heir to the RedBull Empire who has now confessed to killing a policeman while driving his $1 million Ferrari in a hit and run. The police General who was originally investigating the incident has been moved to "administrative duties" after one of the family drivers who was originally charged with the offence claimed he had been forced by the officer into a false confession to being the driver.
He has been replaced by a more senior police general who has publicly vowed to resign if he cannot get to the bottom of the story. ...... Hmmm!!!!! but this is Thailand.
I just love reading the Thai media ..... it is so much more interesting than another headline about how we are all going to lose our jobs and be ruined by Julia and the Labour govt.
It makes my little incident pale into insignificance when I got stopped in a road block on my motorcycle for a license check and the thai copper tried to make out that my Australian license did not cover motorbikes which it clearly stated it did. He was so disappointed I did not take up his very obvious hints on how to let me go more quickly.
