I want that to be very clear.
Yes,
Magneto is a terrorist. We knew that before the summit at Providence. We knew that before the meetings in Orlando. Yes, in Orlando, Magneto got up in front of a lot of people and daringly declared that he is a wonderful father to his loving family. I'm pretty well acquainted with some of his family, and they seem to have their own opinions on the subject, but that's neither here nor there. There are plenty of terrorists who love their families, and plenty of squeaky-clean public servants who terrorize their kids. Once again, not the point.
Nothing has changed.
Magneto is a terrorist, and he has, inevitably, done what terrorists do. SHIELD is an anti-terrorist organization, and now we're doing what we do. We're treating this as a criminal matter, to be handled by the Fifty States Initiative, at home, and SHIELD's global enforcement divisions abroad. This activity will not stand. The matter will be handled, like all such matters, by SHIELD.
Nothing has changed.
My position on mutant rights is what it was in Orlando. The Supreme Court's position is what was
decided and announced last month in Whedon. SHIELD, under the direction of the United States Congress, is working to bring our regulations and procedures into compliance with the Court's ruling, because this is a constitutional democracy, and that is what we do.
Go about your business. Nothing has changed.
*OOC -- This is a note regarding what will be the official Stark/SHIELD position on the recent Brotherhood terrorist attacks. Tony is being mostly straightforward, although he's neglecting the part about not knowing how to catch the SOB's. Obviously, Tony doesn't control what other pups do, but from an official point of view, he's going to frown on anybody non-SHIELD affiliated going after Magneto.
