The Griever

Once there was a brave warrior who would fight and win any battle. Hoping for death himself, and unafraid of death or pain, he would help others as best he could, asking little in return, but always finding a way for personal gain. One day he met a beautiful young girl, and after saving her many times, for she was very unlucky, she fell in love with him. He knew he could not love her, for he wanted above all peace from this world, and he knew he was destined to save it. He knew oneday he would die, and he did not want her to grieve, so he tried to leave her. He campaigned the world over, made many friends in high places, and amassed a huge army to fight his foes with. His enemy was extremely powerful, and he used men, magick, and machines to conquer, and his goals were set on the entire world. But he did not know his consequences, for the Great Spirit would be angered, and it would destroy the humans. The brave warrior knew this though, and he fought to stop this evil emperor. So he amassed a huge army from the world over. His last country he was to plead to for help was on the border of the evil ruler's empire. It was also the country the beautiful girl lived in. and when her father and his men were summoned to join his forces, she hid among them and went to the brave warrior. she stayed out of his sight until they had reached the battlefield he chose. She then made herself known to him. She pleaded with him not to fight, for she loved him, he was always kind to her, and she did not want to see him die. But he said, "Do not be afraid, I will not die. I have this Magick Medallion, it will protect me. I will not die." And as she stared into it's beautiful jade gem, she became quite comfortable, and though the army was outnumbered, and technologically inferior, she was confident in what he said. They slept soundly together that night, but he had a dream. The dream showed him the powers in the medallion, but told him he could not summon them. But then it said that she could, and he should give her the medallion, it was the world's only hope. In the morning, as they stood together in the encampment, he said to the beautiful young girl,"I must give you my medallion. You posses a talent that can save the world, but I do not. You must summon that power today, or we will surely be annihilated." She began to weep violently and she was overtaken with sadness, and he opened her hand, placed the medallion in it, and closed it, her cold fingers wrapping it loosely. He then lightly held her chin as he pulled her face up to meet his. Her eyes and nose were red, and she sniffled as he wiped the dampness off her face. "I love you too," he said. He winked at her as he let go of her face and walked to the front of the lines. She brought the medallion up to her chest and held it tight with both hands like it would be taken from her as was her love. the chain hung out between her fingers, and swayed gently as she fell upon her knees and collapsed to the ground. as she wept, sitting curled on the ground, she did not notice the din of the preparation for the coming battle going on around her. Hours later, she still did not notice the battle which had now begun. A ragged, beaten, bleeding, and wounded warrior staggered up to her and dropped the remains of a broken, bloody sword upon the ground at her feet before he collapsed, for his body was badly broken also. She immediately recognized it as her lover's weapon of choice. "I watched as he was mauled to pieces by their ruler," he wheezed, upon the brink of death. He coughed blood as his face convulsed in pain. She looked up at him, her face thin and bereft of color. "He said..." the soldier hacked and coughed blood on her feet as he tried to speak, as he forced speech, "he said you must save the world." The strong messenger, having completed his task, spat blood once more, and died. He had done more than any man ever should. Her face fell upon her knees, and abandoned the world as she wept into eternity. Hours later the enemy broke through the lines, and she was torn apart like so many others by their ruthless, merciless evil. She never summoned the power to save the world. Days later a cataclysm began, and the heavens fell, and hell rose up, because a beautiful young girl lost her love, and abandoned the world. Annihilation was brought upon the race of men because a young, conceited girl lost her love.
