Drama in the barracks has increased. The birth rate is apparently dropping, so they assigned even the enlisted men and women together. The government is getting desperate.
Which leads me to note that I'm on leave--this is rare. My job is not on record except in discreet mentions in microfilm certain files, so extended leave and pay raise is all I get. For whatever reason, I'd still rather have some stupid pretty little medals to hang somewhere. The least they could do is promote me to lieutenant and assign me to a company so I can do on-file work and be rewarded for it.
Not that I dislike what I do. I love it, like any other man could love sporting events, or women (if he sees either as simple objects). My job is my life, it's my duty. So, I suppose I should be thankful that I still get paid what I do after busting my ass.
There was a paperwork SNAFU. Go figure. Luckily, it's working in my favor: I get another week of leave.
PS- When leave is over, I might be sent on another mission to the front lines for a few months. The smell and fear of death, the excitement, it's sending shivers down my spine. Stahl, thank God, has been assigned with me. He's the best spotter I've ever had, and the best friend a guy could ask for.

Zach's a sniper/recon agent for his military. He's a sergeant for previous, not-so-classified acts, as well as top graduation from the training his father pushed him through. Stahl is his preferred partner for missions requiring more than one agent, and also his best friend.
