CLASS: Hero, he'll ditch the dog tags like he did the first time he was here.
SUPERHERO NAME: Iron Fist
ALTER EGO: Karate Teacher / Executive Assistant

BACKGROUND:
When Daniel Rand was around the age of nine, his father, Wendall Rand, took Danny and his mother to K'un-Lun. They were accompanied by Wendall's business partner, Harold Meachum. Together, they traveled to the Himalayas and started their climb. Unfortunately, somewhere along the way, Wendall Rand fell from a ledge. As he clung to the edge, he begged Meachum to help him. But instead of helping him, Meachum caused him to fall, hoping to gain full control of Rand-Meachum Incorporated.

Things only got worse from there, as soon after his father's death, Danny's mother sacrificed herself to protect him from a pack of wolves. Luckily, the citizens of K'un-Lun found Daniel and took him in. Meachum left the mountain to become a future plot device.

During the nine years Danny lived in K'un-Lun he devoted himself to training so he could get revenge on Meachum for the death of his father. He trained in the martial arts under Lei Kung the Thunderer, who quickly became a father-figure to him. When he was nineteen, Danny requested to fight the immortal dragon, Shou-Lao the Undying. His request was granted, and off he went to the dragon cave. It was there that he killed Shou-Lao bare-handed and then plunged his hands into the dragon's heart, thus giving him the power of the Iron Fist. The death of Shou-Lao angered one of K'un-Lun's dragon god guys, and he tried to destroy K'un-Lun because of it. Another dragon god guy imprisoned him and everything was a-okay (until he broke out later).

After gaining the Iron Fist, Danny lingered a bit in K'un-Lun, waiting for the dimensional nexus to open and bring him back to earth. When it was opened, he headed straight to New York, Meachum-Revenge at the top of his list. Mr. Meachum somehow knew Danny had returned to earth and placed a 10,000 dollar bounty on his head. After kicking ass and taking names, Danny finally reached Meachum only to spare the guy's life. There goes his revenge.Unfortunately, right after Danny left Meachum the aptly named villain, Ninja, popped in and killed him. (Ninja was actually the servant of the dragon god guy that imprisoned the other dragon god guy.) Danny was blamed for the murder which got him on some bad terms with Captain America and Iron Man. Eventually, he cleared his name with the help of Colleen Wing and Misty Knight, two female private detectives. Misty would later become his on-again, off-again girlfriend. Danny also inherited his father's company, which was awkward because with Harold Meachum dead, Ward Meachum-his brother-was now also running the company. Ward and his daughter Joy hated Danny and Ward often plotted to kill him.

After some other non-important adventures, Danny encountered his first arch-nemesis, Davos, also known as the Steel Serpent. Davos specialized in "delayed death touch" although in the recent Immortal Iron Fist, this power was never touched upon. He constantly stalked/attacked Danny, hoping to take the power of the Iron Fist. And then Danny met Luke Cage. Through a kidnapping. Where Cage was the kidnapper. He had been blackmailed by Misty's old enemy, Bushmaster, to kidnap her. Which caused Danny to go rescue her and beat the crap out of Luke. Somehow, this beatdown session led to one of the closest bromances ever. Soon after this, the two teamed up to confront Master Khan-the dragon god guy behind the murder of Harold Meachum. Together, they both went to K'un-Lun, where Danny was reunited with Lei Kung and went to kill a whole species of plant people. Later during his lovely stay in K'un-Lun, Yu-Ti-the ruler of K'un-Lun and Danny's adopted uncle-kidnapped him, chained him to a rock and tried to sacrifice him to please Master Khan. But, it turns out that Master Khan's scared of the whole power of the Iron Fist, and he let Danny and Luke go. The duo went back to New York.

Later, Khan would strike again. This time enlisting the help of Ward Meachum and a wolf girl named Fera, who was actually one of the wolves that killed Danny's mom. Khan used the Power Gem of Quon to take Danny's powers, which ended up almost killing him. Luckily, Luke, Misty and Colleen went to save him and he got his powers back. However, Khan continued to mess with Danny's life for not really any good reason.

After a few other things, Danny was exposed to deadly radiation and got a cancer-like sickness. Luke and Misty took the dying Rand back to K'un-Lun where Lei-Kung taught him how to heal his cancer. It was here that Danny also finally learned about the dragon guy that almost killed K'un-Lun after hearing Danny had killed Shou-Lao. This made Danny feel overwhelmingly guilty, causing him to change his costume to a hideous red one. He overcame the guilt with the help of Luke and the rest of his friends. While his way back to Earth after this ordeal, Danny was ambushed by the plant people. They kidnapped him, put him in a weird pod-thing, and made a replacement Danny. Which was actually a plant person. The plant-Danny went back to Earth in Danny's place and fooled everyone. And then Plant-Danny died, and Luke was blamed for the death of Iron Fist.

So, everyone thinks Danny's dead until Misty and Colleen discovered that the Danny they buried had reverted to plants and mossy things. Which is certainly not what people do. So, with the help of Namor, they went back to K'un-Lun and saved Danny from the plant-people. Danny then helps some more superheroes and then starts to lose some of his confidence in himself. This causes the Contemplator to see that Danny's inner emo is upsetting the cosmic universe because of his link with Shou-Lao. He makes Danny reassemble the Anomaly Gem, which resurrected Davos, who then stole Danny's power and tried to conquer K'un-Lun. Danny fought Davos and got his power back, which restored his confidence in himself. Somehow.

A few months after that, New York's prominent superheroes were seemingly killed by Onslaught. Danny took it upon himself to "give the world hope" which apparently means "mystically bind yourself to K'un-Lun, which will eventually lead it to Earth and thus remake the world." He had another, logical approach as well. This was to create Heroes for Hire with Luke. Unfortunately, Heroes for Hire didn't last too long due to members on the team not liking certain changes.

Fast forward in time to when the heroes supposedly killed by Onslaught return. This causes Danny to realize that he was being an idiot and no, not everyone will embrace K'un-Lun's rule, and so he began to look for a way to undo his link with the city. Around this time, a 16-year old Hand assassin named Junzo Muto stole Danny's powers so he could bring K'un-Lun to Japan. Not wanting to see Japan destroyed by a mystical city and its accompanying dragons, Danny teamed up with Wolverine, Yu-Ti and even the Avengers (sort of). Things happen, mostly panic, and Yu-Ti stabs Danny. Which causes Danny to die for a whole five minutes before getting rejected from death and getting kicked back into the land of the living.

Time passes, Danny doesn't show up for awhile in comics. At one point he helps Black Panther defeat a dragon. But really, he doesn't reappear until Matt Murdock/Daredevil asks Danny to take up the Daredevil mask while he is incarcerated. Danny eagerly accepts because he admires Matt and becomes Daredevil for all of Civil War. His main achievement during the war was giving Tony Stark the silver dollar and saying "Sleep well, Judas."

After Captain America surrenders, Danny goes back to being the Iron Fist, deciding not to register. While being Iron Fist, he finds himself the new target of Hydra. This is because his company is being taken over by another company, which is actually run by Hydra. The head of said company is actually an underling of Davos, who has once again, come back from the dead. Around the same time, Danny finds out that someone is using the Iron Fist. He discovers the person using the Iron Fist is another Iron Fist, the previous one. Who also might be his grandfather. The previous Iron Fist's name is Orson Randall, and he gives Danny the Book of the Iron Fist which documents the lives and techniques of all 66 Iron Fists. Orson eventually gets killed by Davos and orders Danny to take his (Orson's) power. Danny obeys, and is now able to do a two-handed Iron Fist and seemed to get an even larger mystical power.

Right after Davos kills Orson, Danny is called back to K'un-Lun by Lei Kung and Yu-Ti for a tournament between the seven cities of heaven and each cities' champions. It's during this tournament that Danny meets the other immortal weapons, Fat Cobra, Dog Brother #1, Tiger's Beautiful Daughter, Bride of Nine Spiders, and John Aman/Prince of Orphans. And Davos. Who now calls himself the Steel Phoenix. While the tournament is going on, Danny discovers a woman who informs him that she and Lei Kung have been forming a rebellion against Yu-Ti. Danny signs up for the rebellion because Yu-Ti is a dick, and manages to recruit all the other immortal weapons to his cause. While all this is happening in K'un-Lun, outside of K'un-Lun, the guy who's taking over Danny's company kidnaps Danny's close friend Jeryn (also his business manager) and forces him to build a train that will travel through dimensions and breach K'un-Lun. Danny finds out about this and leads a counter-attack against the train. Unfortunately, before he can stop the guy, the taking-over-companies man throws himself off a cliff after cryptically mentioning an 'eighth city'.

So, Danny takes the other immortal weapons with him to Earth so he can show them all a jolly good time and also so that they can research the 'eighth city'. While this is happening, Danny turns 33, which apparently is the age all the previous Iron Fists have died. Danny soon find out that they died because the eighth city's champion, Zhou Cheng-the servant of Ch'i-Lin-takes their heart out and then tries to eat Shou-Lao the Undying while using the Iron Fist's power. And it turns out the only way to not have your heart torn out is by drugging yourself up and running away, like Orson did. Except, Danny creates a new way. Which is basically the angriest punch in the world. So, Danny doesn't die at age 33. They do learn about the location of the eighth city, though. And all together, the immortal weapons set off to the gate that will lead them to the eighth city.

Well, turns out the eighth city isn't a very nice place to be. In fact, it's Hell. The moment the immortal weapons arrive in the eighth city, they're ridiculously outnumbered and forced to surrender themselves. They are then made to fight everyday in Hell's colosseum, while getting no food and no time to sleep. They can't heal themselves either because the matches pass so quickly, which means it's their turn to fight once again. Danny, being the hardcore guy he is, pushes through this horrible torture and actually comes up with a way of communication with the other immortal weapons. They start using their enemies guts, blood, skulls, etc., for morse code. Over a period of time, they devise an escape plan. Unfortunately for Danny, the head of the city, Changming, sees the patterns on the ground of the colosseum and tortures Danny. Specifically burning the mark of Shou-Lao off of his chest and putting his wrists on large hooks. Danny's then thrown back into his cell where he meets a man claiming to be Quan Yaozu, the first Iron Fist. A bit later, Danny and the old man are brought out into the arena with the other immortal weapons watching. Changming orders the two to fight to the death, and Danny hesitantly beats the old guy up, but spares him after finding out that he's not really another Iron Fist. Meanwhile, the other immortal weapons escape and start freeing people and causing havoc. Which makes Changmind angry and he starts to choke Danny. And uses the Iron Fist while choking him. Which means Changming is actually Quan Yaozu, the first Iron Fist. Danny realizes this, tells Quan he wants to help, Quan continues choking him. Until Fat Cobra punches him off Danny and they run to escape from Hell.

Unfortunately, Yaozu catches them at the exit with his giant army of Gross and forces Danny to take him back to the real world so they can get revenge on K'un-Lun. Danny has a knife to his throat so he agrees to do it and they exit Hell to see Davos pointing a gun at them. Turns out good ol' Lei Kung wanted anyone from Hell dead. Danny says "that's bullshit fuck you" and he and Davos get into a fight and it all ends with Danny "convincing" (through punches) both Quan and Davos to just go back to K'un-Lun and settle things peacefully between themselves. Which they do.

So then Danny goes back to New York to find that his company has lost a shitton of money and is pretty much dead. He also finds out Misty is pregnant, but only after he proposes to her. Unfortunately, this is all retconned with the excuse that Danny's chi powers gave Misty a false pregnancy. Which is pretty weird. So after that retconned reveal, the two of them aren't together anymore.

Anyway Danny gets back towards the tail-end of Dark Reign. Most notably: 1) he gets kidnapped  and brainwashed by Norman Osborn and the Thunderbolts and then rescued by Luke. 2) Saves Luke from being Norman Osborn's prisoner and punches a helicarrier which was ridiculous. 3) Ends up being one of the founding members of the New New Avengers after Osborn is taken out of power and Steve Rogers gives the New New Avengers the old Avengers Mansion to chill in.

PERSONALITY:
Daniel Rand spent the majority of his life in a world that was trapped in a much earlier time. Therefore, it shouldn't be very surprising to know that when he came back to Earth he was extremely naive and confused about the urban world around him. Of course, that was when he was a teenager, not a middle-aged man, but he still retains a significant amount of naivety.

Danny acts like you would expect a dojo-trained mystical kung fu fighter to act. He's incredibly disciplined and respectful. He's nice, polite, says 'please' and 'thank you' and knows how to follow orders. He's a bit formal with people he doesn't know and a bit awkward at other times, both of which can make him appear to be either fairly stiff or goofy, depending on the occasion.

Luckily, he's slowly getting better at being more casual and less formal. While the formalities are still present, recent canon has shown him actually having a personality when in team settings. He makes jokes, has conversations with people, and even tries his hand at banter sometimes (he's not very good at it).

In group settings, Danny tends to play the peacekeeper. It's a matter of not wanting his friends to fight, and also because fighting really isn't conducive to forming ideas and planning.

One of Danny's biggest personality flaws is that he's entirely too trusting. If a person shows signs of changing for the good, 90% of the time Danny will give them a second chance. Sometimes it's because he has to in order for a certain "mission" to be successful, but most of the time it's just because he trusts they'll stay on the right path. Which, needless to say, isn't always the case and therefore causes a lot of trouble for him. Mostly in the form of betrayal.

He's not exactly the smartest guy, but he's not stupid. He does tend to leap before he looks in normal, day-to-day situations, although it has been shown that when the time calls for a plan he'll come up with one. It just won't be very good. Normally it includes punching things or really stupid distractions. Surprisingly though, they normally tend to work out.

Unlike most billionaires, Danny has made it his life's goal to "die bankrupt", spending the majority of his money on charities and community programs. Part of this is because of the source of his canon money (which wouldn't apply  here), but the majority of the reason is that Danny is kind of a philanthropist. Helping people helps him feel grounded and less of an alien or Mr. Rich White Guy. It also just makes him feel good. So he does it a lot, oftentimes stretching himself thin across multiple efforts and getting little sleep because of it. But that's just part of the whole "putting others before yourself" deal that most superheroes tend to do.

POWER:
Danny's canon power is the ability to harness and manipulate his chi or natural energy. By focusing his chi (which Marvel is extremely vague on defining) Danny can enhance any and all of his natural abilities, meaning he can become faster, better, stronger or however that Daft Punk song goes. Essentially, Danny's chi allows him to:

1) Iron Fist. By focusing a large amount of his chi into his hands, he can make his hands temporarily invincible and super strong. By using the Iron Fist, he is able to pretty much… destroy buildings with a punch so that's the type of ridiculous power we're talking about here.

2) Healing. Just like how he can enhance his own natural abilities, he can use his chi to enhance and speed up his, or someone else's natural healing processes. For others, he has to be able to touch the injury or an area near the injury in order to be able to heal it, and he can only do it when touching the other person's skin.

3) Chi-sensing. Danny is able to sense the chi of people. As each person has a different feeling of Chi, Danny is able to sense and identify a person's location based on the location of their chi. He is only able to do this with people he knows, and only in a relatively short range. For instance, he would be able to sense Luke's chi if Luke was in a factory and Danny was standing on a building across the street from said factory. But if Luke was in a factory and Danny was in Antarctica, where there are no factories and mainly penguins and Morgan Freeman, then Danny wouldn't be able to sense Luke's chi.

4) Consciousness-fusing. By touching someone and focusing the majority of his chi (and memories) into a person, he and the person he's touching can share memories. Unfortunately, this aspect of his power tends to be extremely straining both emotionally and physically on Danny and the consciousness-sharing partner, so he pretty much never uses it.

Canonly, Danny can only use a certain amount of his chi without draining his supply and… well. Almost dying. This will be the same, if not mores the case in the City, as Danny will have to draw most of his power from himself instead of the Shou-Lao's. So, small things like sensing chi and small healing he could pretty much spend all day doing. However, the larger stuff, like healing gaping stomach wounds or doing 4 Iron Fists in one day would pretty much drain him.
