This took quite some time, but mainly because I wanted to be sure this chapter was the best it could be. It's the moment we've been waiting for; what the heck is Layton up to and what is Luke hiding? Cover art is at Tegaki E, though I'll be adjusting this post and previous ones later with same art located at deviantart. I hope you enjoy this

Yes, there are many different conflicts going on all at the same time, and its these struggles that shape the timeline and steer it in one direction or another. Because of Don Paolo's meddling, and even some misdirection from Penford and Hershel that they hadn't yet realized made an impact, the conflicts have shifted and so has the timeline. Slowly, it's moving towards a future the two of us know lies waiting to devour it.
Layton's struggle to keep Luke by him shifts to struggling to break away from his family 'curse' and thus push Luke away, Luke's confusion about his mentor's feelings turns to fear of rejection and forced coldness towards him, Hershel's desire to remain strong and independent as Hawk-Eye hides his desperation to be loved and accepted as someone worthy, and even Penford's struggle to keep his mission secret and on track begins to weaken as his control is taken away and the relationship between Layton and Luke starts falling apart...
All this and more will come, growing and festering until the greatest event comes to pass, the rise of Corruption....
O.O Whoa, that sounded kinda epic!
