When I watched the episode, I was like ok that jacket looks awefully familiar, and then it clicked that he wore that coat "In The End"

I guess it just makes the whole episode even more ominous - maybe this is where it starts for Dean turning into that "inhuman" version of himself in The End. Although that's not going to happen now because he has Sam to keep him human, which Future!Dean didn't have.

I giggled when he tossed that first jacked aside, must have been Sam's;) Beyond that I'm not sure if there is any significance to his jackets but it's certainly something to think about/look for in the remaining episodes.

I'm just wondering if its the writers messing with us - suggesting this is where Dean starts down the road to becoming the Dean we saw in The End...?

yup i noticed this too. he also wore that green jacket when Sam was hallucinating in the panic room and he sees a hallucination of dean who calls him a monster. i think it's the same epi when he hallucinates his younger self and mary as well. i dont remember dean ever having that jacket before s4. he didnt have that jacket during his djinn hallucination in WIASNB did he? in that scene when he sees mary for the first time?

As far as I know it's only been worn by Future!Dean in The End. I'm thinking it's just one Bobby had lying around in his basement that Dean ended up with in the Future. And this is how he came to have it.

no he def had it when sam hallucinated. i kno that bc i remember laughing at how ridiculously popped he had the collar lol. ugh the things i notice. hell it still bugs me that he doesnt have his ring or amulet. *prays sam picked it up*

No, I just checked. The one Dean was wearing in When The Levee Breaks when Sam's hallucinating is I think the one he has on in the Green Room in 5.18 - no epaulettes.

I've often noticed the significance of Dean's jackets... but sometimes I think it is based more on what's happening in the scene... I have to go back and check - but I was pretty sure it was a pretty large jacket of Bobby's that Dean grabbed -- and I assumed it was because he needed it to cover padding for getting flung around that alley....

Well from the pictures, it certainly seems like the same one. It looked quite big on Jensen in The End to be honest! But I know what you mean - it almost looked like a mac or something when he took it off the hook at Bobby's.
