One of my New Year's goals is to post a little more frequently - once a month, or so. Consider this the January post.
I want to remind everyone to vote at the
hpgw_otp Best of 2009 Awards. There are some wonderful works of fiction and art so please go vote. I only wrote one fic this year,
Falling Slowly, and I was incredibly honored and pleased to see it among some of the nominees. To whomever nominated it - THANK YOU.
If you're a fan of red wine (and who isn't?), you might want to try a glass of
this as you're reading through all of those great stories and looking at that lovely art. Affordable and very tasty.
If you want to read something on actual paper, I'd recommend "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett. I'm probably biased because I grew up in the American South not too long after the events of this book, which take place in Mississippi in 1962. I have an abiding interest in the civil rights movement, and I knew plenty of people growing up that had "help" (the southern word for maids). I don't think those are prerequisites for enjoying it, though. It was the first novel I've been able to tear myself away from fanfiction and real life long enough to read in a long while. If you have time and/or interest, please give it a try and let me know what you think.
