Erin just started to pull up to stand so she has to pull up on everything now.  Along with this she has gotten extremely grabby with everything.  So we were walking through our local scrapbook store and she was grabbing at all the shelves & hooks.  I kept pulling her arms in, telling her "no, you're going to get hurt" but she just smiled & giggled.  Then in a spilt second she lunges, my arm misses and she falls about 4'5" to solid tile floor.  Commence me freaking out, her screaming & every other customer in the store rushing to us.  At first I thought she was ok because she's gotten bumps & bruises before (trying to cruise) but then she couldn't/ wouldn't stand or sit up and about 2 mins later she lost consciousness

.

Luckily we were only about 2 miles from our local ER but I hit every friggin red light on the way there (no for some reason 911 never occurred to me) & reached back & touched her at every one but she didn't even give a flutter of movement - completely unresponsive.  Then we finally get there and I'm able to rouse her to semi-consciousness, so we go in but we have to wait through the triage process like everyone else.  30 mins pass and the nurse finally calls us back, so I tell her the story and get chastized: Why didn't  you tell me sooner, I'm not a mindreader you know!, Why the h*ll didn't you call 911?!  yada, yada.  So there are no open beds in the ER so they call over to Express Care (which I didn't even know existed) and are going to send us over there.  So as they're arranging this another nurse comes in saying they're going to open a bed but we have to wait another 10-15 mins.  WHAT?!  Which part of 7mth old infant falls, hits head, loses consciousness & still not "with it" did they not understand?

But we wait - again, until they finally take us back.  We're shown our "room" and then left there.  Wait another 15-20mins and registration comes back to collect all their information & the story - FL state law requires all "accident" stories be taken & verified by medical evidence, if it's even slightly different the ER staff can call in CPS AND if you come in within 30 days with similar injuries they automatically call CPS.  So any case she does her stuff and we're left to wait again for 20-30 mins until the doctor decides to deem us worthy of his attention.  By this time, Erin is fully conscious and grabbing at everything again so I get the overprotective mother routine from the doc.  He looks at her bump (which I think is huge 3in long & 1in wide) and says I don't think it's anything she looks perfectly fine to me but we'll take X-rays anyways and if they show anything they'll do a Cat Scan.

So we wait another 30 mins for the X-Ray tech by which time Erin is pulling herself up on the (adult) bed rails and not wanting to get down
.   So they take the X-rays (during which Erin screamed loudly) and we wait another hour for the doctor to come back.  Everything's fine; mild concussion, give her some infant's Tylenol & make sure you prevent future falls (not sure what else I can do!).  Another 15 mins and we finally get our discharge paperwork.  So I stop and grab food on the way home and she falls asleep instantly.

So I guess alls well that ends well but it was terrifying & loooong afternoon.  Oh & did I mention that John is in D.C this week and our ER is totally not set up for pediatrics let alone infants?
