Stick to the Kebabs (or, yet another Government minister proves himself to be a moron)
Fianna Fáil TD Conor Lenihan dropped himself in it today. While taking flak in the Dáil from Joe Higgins in the debate about the future of Aer Lingus he retored off-mic that the Deputy should "stick to the Kebabs". Meaning Turkish Gama workers - at least, that would seem to the case, since he issued an apology for any offence caused.
Given that Minister Lenihan is a Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs for Overseas Aid and Human Rights, I have to ask in what way he refers to people who aren't Irish - Indonesians as "slints" maybe? The Congolese or Sudanese as "niggers"? I despair of this Government I really do.
At least the upside is that the issue of the Gama workers is now back in the spotlight - perhaps the assistance that was promised by the Government will now be provided.
