Week 1

I just finished week 1 of my first rotation, which is at Hannaford Pharmacy in New Hartford.  I guess I still don't have a real feel for it since I haven't met my preceptor yet, but I will on Monday. Everyone says she's really nice, but that I will never ever be let out early (boo).  They have PDX for their software there, which I hate, but I remember more than I thought I would from my brief period of using it at Wegmans.  So far all the staff there is very nice.  The only complaint I would have is that Denise, the lead technician or whatever you want to call her, can be a little power hungry at times.  She definitely knows what she is doing because she has been there a long time, but she feels the need to make sure that everyone recognizes this.  She has helped me when I've needed it this week so I can't complain all that much.  The store isn't very busy, 150-200 scripts per day.  I've been a little bored this week during those times.  I started a little paperwork but didn't want to do too much before meeting my preceptor.  I found out I'm going to be doing a blood pressure clinic, which I don't think will be bad as long as I can manipulate the damn sphygmomanometer (if I spelled that right).  I remember we had to use it in lab once and the valve release wouldn't work and the thing was squeezing the girls arm...oops!
Tomorrow I'm working at Kinney's again.  Hopefully this time I'll actually be in the pharmacy so I can meet some of the staff and figure out yet another computer system...joy.  I took a quick glance at it when I was there last week and it isn't windows based so I'm afraid it's going to be as archaic and outdated as PDX....but I hope that I am wrong! I know all their stores are switching over to Enterprise (which I used at Wegmans and loved) but I have no idea when the Chittenango store will get it.  I'm not sure if I am working with Cindy or Rich, but I really hope that it is Rich based on what I've heard about the two of them.
I've actually adjusted to my new schedule better than I thought I would.  As long as I get to bed around 10 each night I don't have too much trouble getting up at 6:30.  My feet hurt every day from working, but I think I am going to take the leap and invest in an expensive pair of shoes.  They come highly recommended from several healthcare professionals so I think I may suck it up and shell out the $120 if it will save my feet!

To go in a compleeeetely different direction, Michael Jackson died yesterday. He was only 50 and it's a shame.  I've heard rumors of it being prescription medication related, but who knows at this point.  Despite all the allegations made against him in recent years and all the criticism he's had to endure for his changes in appearance, no one can deny that he was a great performer.

Now I am off to read! Currently reading "Club Dead" of the Sookie Stackhouse series :) I've bought so many books this summer that I'm pretty sure Barnes & Noble owns the rights to my firstborn child.
