Must say this book was one of my faves. When I was first reading it I burst out laughing "it's The Last Starfighter!," since I'd just caught a bit of the old scifi movie where aliens send a video game to find, well, the last starfighter to save them.
Then shit got serious with the humans controlling other humans. The idea of the paused game disappearing because the person was killed while you went to make a sandwich is downright creepy.Raynor gets bonus points for taking a potentially cheesy plot and making it rather dark and twisted, which the series doesn't see enough of.
*sigh* reading your reviews is making me want to review now... which means re-reading the books, which I don't exactly have time for now do I? But now I have to do it, so thanks a lot : p
I love this one - I own them all (because I am a book whore) and this is one of my favorites. I love the bit where Mickey talks about his "ex" and her new man... SQUEEEEEEEE! Oh Jacqueline Rayner you are the jam!
I'm dying to read this book! I went online to read about so I know the plot and ending but still I'm dying to read it. Could I ask a big favor? Since you have typed up three parts could you type up one more for me? please? The part when Darren is going to beat up Rose and the Doctor steps in. I just wanna know how that played out. I can pictures Rose being ready to fight him and Darren walking towards her when suddenly out of no where the Doctor is there standing behind him. All tall and dark being very so polite but letting it be known that no one is touching Rose... I think I've read one to many fanfics... still I'm dying to know.
The only thing I didn't know about was all the alien bondage jokes. Oh that sound so good and take my thoughts to naughty places.:p

Gimme a bit to retype it. I had typed up a page and a half of chapter three to show where Darren first came in and then was going to skip to the showdown... :: head desk repeatedly ::
