I think not even killing Lilith but being strong enough supposedly changes his soul - based on what Ruby and Cas said. From Ruby's story, that's what Lucifer's first was, right? Oh, wait.... Sam kills Lilith and becomes Lucifer's first. Uhm....Ok, now I'm worried.

Jared....there are not enough words in English language to describe how incredible Jared was in this episode. Holy crap. The boy deserves to get some big roles once he's done with the show. No doubts about it.

Ok, now I'm giving myself a headache. At first I thought Sam would just be the final seal. But I guess, now I'm back to Lilith dying being the final seal. But then would that make Sam Ruby's first? Since she managed to turn human into a demon? and what would that make her then? Besides the fact that I think Dean should really gut her like a fish with her own knife.

Oh, yes, if anybody ever dares to say that Jensen is a better actor than Jared ever again, I'll punch them. Jensen's damn good, I'm not taking anything away from him. But Jared deserves some major props for everything he's done this season and especially in this episode.

I'm not even surprised. They really don't get Sam at all. They take everything that happens at face value. So, whatever. Their loss.

As for Ruby making a deal with Lilith - that would definitely make sense in relation to what happened in IKWYDLS and Ruby getting out of hell. The only thing is that I'm wondering why would Ruby try and help Sam in season 3? I don't think she had a deal with Lilith then. Mostly because Lilith was actually trying to kill Sam the entire time and Ruby saved him. It had to be something else. And then she went back to hell and made a deal with Lilith to turn Sam.

Another thought - maybe Lilith knew that she'd have to die or a human who was turned demon had to die to be the last seal, right? Well, what if that's why she needed Sam turned. He dies in her place?

I'm surprised I even have questions. I'm still so shaken up from the episode...

We need to discuss these when we're calm and collected. lol.

have no idea why Ruby tried to befriend Sam...other than to try and get into his good graces so she could do whatever she is supposed to do.

I get that. For me it just doesn't fit within everything else that was happening in season 3. Right now ever since she came back from hell in IKWYDLS it totally fits with her making a deal with Lilith to deliver Sam to her just the way she wanted him. But in season 3, I don't see it.

IMHO, Ruby's intentions were a mystery/toss-up until the point in "Jus In Bello" when she was able to walk through a crowd of bloodthirsty demons without getting her ass jumped and torn apart. From that moment on, I knew she was suspect in her true intentions. She knew too much about Lilith, how she operated, where she would be, before IKWYDLS. The fact she was playing at being friends with Sam and doing her best to "save his life", it doesn't conflict with her being in league with Lilith from day one. I've seen a lot of planted characters like hers in stories over the years. Except Kripke practically broadcasts character intentions, so it's not much of a shock in her case, she was shady from the moment she showed up.

Oh, I don't doubt that, but...

In season 3, Lilith was set on killing Sam. And Ruby was the one to save him. She saved Dean as well - when she could have let him die and he would have gone to hell earlier than expected and started the apocalypse earlier than expected. But she saved him. So either she had a different plan until Lilith sent her to hell or Lilith had a different plan up until Dean finally broke the first seal.

The sad part is...I don't think we'll ever know. Even sadder - I don't think Kripke knows.

Which is exactly what I mean. They've been saying - the demons and angels - that certain things had to be in place at certain times. In a way, Ruby was making sure things ran according to plan. If that meant Dean staying alive for his year, then that's what she did. Made sure that happened. Plus, how many of those instances where demons were involved and Ruby showed up "to help" might've been totally staged?

But the reason Dean was going to die in that particular ep was because one of Lilith's supporters planted that hex bag in the motel. So, if there was a need to keep Dean alive until a certain point as well as Sam, why did she try to kill both? Why did Lilith try to kill Sam in season 3 finale? She was seriously scared when it didn't work on him. I mean, she was terrified. So, that was not part of the plan.

The thing about the hex bag incident is how conveniently Ruby appeared with the antidote. It was suspect, how she walked in the door just in the nick of time. Her appearances have always been convenient, thus making them suspect. At least, for me, since I've never really liked the character from the start. As for Lilith's trying to kill Sam, I don't know if that was ever truly her aim. It's been a while since I've seen anything from season three, so I can't properly pull examples to support that.

I don't remember other instances, but in the season 3 finale she definitely wanted him dead. And the shock on her face was unmistakable.

Another thing is that when she came to Sam in Monster at the end of the book, she said something like 'turns out I don't survive the apocalypse' or something like that. If it's a known thing that the last seal is the death of the First one, how could she not know it? Since, she IS the one
