Yet another Supernatural related post

So, I'm sure I'm just re-stating the facts, but I've been wondering why Sam didn't go through withdrawals the first time he stopped drinking Ruby's blood.  So, basically this is me answering my own question.

Here is what I'm thinking.  Ruby did not come to Sam in her freshly 'recycled' body (in IKWYDLS) and said, to kill Lilith you need to drink my blood.  I'm guessing she actually did teach Sam how to use his powers to exorcise demons.  Obviously it was slow going with poor puppy getting headaches and nosebleeds.  But the point is - these are powers that are within Sam.  The demon blood is just to give it a boost, make him more powerful faster.  Which is what Ruby used as the reasoning behind getting him to start drinking her blood.

Here is the thing, I am now of the belief that Sam didn't start drinking her blood until some time right before Dean came back.  That's just my guess, but Ruby had to give it some time, to make Sam see why he NEEDED her blood.  Because he wasn't getting strong enough to kill Lilith as fast as he wanted.  And I'm sure when she did, he was completely disgusted and had a huge problem with it.

Then Dean came back and threw a big wrench into the whole thing when he found out about Sam's new way of exorcising demons.  Sam not only stopped drinking blood, he stopped using his powers - for like 2 seconds.  And it had to be at least a few weeks between the last time  Sam saw Ruby and when he sent Samhain back to hell and yeah, he got a major nosebleed, he was still powerful enough to do it,but he wasn't going through withdrawals, which is why I do think that Sam wasn't drinking demon blood for too long before he stopped and it wasn't too much of it.  When he chose to stop after 4.04, he wasn't addicted to it at that point and his power was still HIS, it wasn't coming from the demon blood.

As we all know, he refused to go back to drinking blood until Chris Angel is a Douchebag.  Once he made that decision though, I'm guessing he dived head first.  He started drinking blood too often and too much,  I'm guessing, quickly becoming addicted to it and also I'm guessing after he saw how powerful he quickly became, he drank even more.  Leading us to where we are now - which is with poor Sammy stuck in the panic room.

And while it wasn't the point of this post, here is what I'm thinking - even without the demon blood,Sam can become super powerful.  He just needs time and practice.  So, here is my hope for season 5 (even though I'm sure it won't happen because Kripke's a bastard), is that Sam gets 'clean' somewhere between season 4 and season 5, learns how to use his powers without extra help and kicks some major ass.  Oh, and he also learns the power of forgiveness - he's going to need it in order to repair his relationship with Dean.
