Back to the grind...

We just got back from a 4 day vacation, a trip to one of our favorite places, though a short stay. Every year we try to arrange a stay along the north shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota.
Naniboujou.
To me that word is synonymous with Xanadu, Shangri-la, Never-Never land. There is a website (though I can't do links) naniboujou.com. You will be astonished by the beauty and simplicity of this wonderful place. We have made a reservation for a winter weekend in January to celebrate our 33rd anniversary. I can't wait till we return.
We also stayed a night in Bayfield, WI, home of the Apostle Islands, and another night in Copper Harbor, MI. We'd been to Bayfield before and though the scenery about the islands is lovely, I don't care for the out and out tourism of the place.
Copper Harbor was new to us. The fall color in the surrounding hills was really quite spectacular this time of year, and the room we rented was quite extraordinary. Octagon in shape, it stood atop a tower and all but one side of the octagon was floor to ceiling windows facing the harbor. They nick named it "the crows nest" and it is very popular as a honeymoon escape. The weather while we were there was rainy and really windy and cold, but the nest was very cozy and the view of the harbor and Lake Superior beyond was exhilarating, full of huge waves crashing on the rocks at the harbors edge. On a sunny day (or starry night) it would be breathtaking.
As you might surmise, most of our vacation was spent driving from one place to another. It rained most of the time, but that was fine with us. We always take along books on tape to make the drive very pleasant.
Now that we're home, I'm busy making arrangements for another homecoming event. Lance will be here to stay on Wednesday, and I'm overjoyed. Hurry Wednesday, Hurry!
