I love my humanties class. Frankly, I thought I'd hate it seeing as the guy who taught humanties in high school lectured from a book. But I learned today that a humanties class can be interesting, especially when you've got a professor utilizing Socratic method. Since we're going to be analyzing artwork, movies, and music, he went around the room asking everyone what their favorite bands/songs/movies were. Then he followed up and asked why we felt the way we did, talking about how we can so easily bring up a conversation by asking people why they feel the way they do about something. Then he went on to tell us about how we should be able to challenge and argue points. And then... he let us know we're gonna be writing papers.
I'm psyched. One day in, and I can tell he's gonna be the best professor all season. I can also tell people are gonna be pissed with him for challenging them every time they say: "I like this movie but I don't know why.", but I say, bring it on.
In other news, my political science (Chinese Government) teacher allegedly encourages participation. Then she goes on to demonstrate her VAST KNOWLEDGE of the Chinese language in a ten minute long bout of self-indulgence. Then, a few people, including myself, make comments at various points in the lesson. Upon each instance, she gives the whoever commented a blank look, and then goes on with her perhaps memorized lecture.
Yeah, so in her class today, I learned how to properly pronounce names of dishes on the menus at Chinese restaurants.
I'm so glad my humanities class is loads better.
